I'm in NW Arkansas and it is pretty bad. 100,000 people are without power, they have shelters open, and Sears advertised on TV that they're going to be open today to sell generators and chainsaws. We have power, but that's because we're on the same line as a nursing home. The local news station lost power on Wednesday, but they got it back up quickly.

University of Arkansas has no power, including some of their dorms. Schools have been closed all week. Even highways haven't been cleared all the way. We tried going out yesterday, but our car got stuck trying to go up a hill because they haven't gotten to plowing it. A large limb fell on our car, and it took almost three hours to get all the ice off of it. A neighbor of ours has to work, but that's because he's a police officer, who have been on duty trying to get people out of the homes that have no power.

In NE Arkansas, we have some family who have live wires in their driveway. All the lines to their house have been cut. One of their cars were smashed by a limb. There's a huge tree that landed on their roof which, thankfully, hadn't caused it to cave in yet. They're staying with their son because he has a generator and propane heater. They've been told that it may take a month for them to get power restored.

Needless to say, it may take weeks for them to dig out the state. It really does need the federal money. This is apparently the worst ice storm the state has ever had.

I've seen the Cardiff Giant in Cooperstown. It's sitting in an outdoor glass case on a random stretch of lawn at the historical village, with a tiny sign. The only reason I recognized it was because I had heard about it the year before.

It's a world of extremes! In Melbourne Australia, we are suffering power outages as the temperature reached above 40C (104F) for the third day in a row, today it was 45C (113F) but at least today blackouts at my place were only a couple of minutes long
