Hi Therese. I didn't mean anything bad by it, just wanted to give some more info :)
I like Mondriaan's earlier work better than his Cubist periode actually. Especially the transitional work. He has an amazing series of trees in blues, reds and pastels. And I absoutely love his triptych Evolution. I think I sat in front of it for an hour at the museum :)
Definitely worth seeing in real life!

Maaike, I don't think Andréa is suggesting that Mondrian coined the term, only that it's the term he used for his work.
Although I like Mondrian's Cubist works, I personally like curves precisely because they ARE emotional.

The correct spelling is actually; `Nieuwe Beelding´ And the name and style weren´t solely Mondriaan´s. He worked closely with Dutch artists Theo van Doesburg, Bart van der Leck, Vilmos Huszàr, J.J.P. Oud and Anthony Kok.
With whom he formed the artistgroup De Stijl (The Style). They published a journal with the same name, in which they published their own theories on art.
Although Mondriaan was very important in this movement, it was van Doesburg who was the driving factor behind all of it.
Just giving credit where credit´s due.

For more information check Wikipedia. Because there is so much more to know =)
