Twice at my favorite flea market I've seen a certain couple; the man was hauling a platform cart, upon which was mounted a chair, upon which was seated his wife.

Everytime I think of wheelchairs, I am reminded of a Bloom County strip in the 80's where the inhabitants get together to buy Cutter John a new chair. The choices at the store are dismal so they make one. It's a la-z-boy recliner on wheels with lots of interesting attachments.

I don't think he invented anything, but supposedly FDR designed his wheelchair from a chair in their house, I think a kitchen chair.

I'm pretty postive Philip II suffered from a bad case of gout for a good portion of his life (or, in the very least, toward the end of his life). I remember reading a book on him which described this and the possible implications it had toward his demeanor. Anyways, I'm not sure if you can exactly knock him for getting that chair through laziness...he may have actually needed it.
