Hugh Rienhoff’s daughter has a rare genetic defect that doctors can’t identify or treat, so he took it upon himself to sequence her DNA. It’s a difficult task if you don’t have a business, or university, or laboratory of your own.

  1. My friend was Miss Crawfish Queen a few years back, since her small town in Mississippi is the crawfish capital of Mississippi, or the US, or the world… or something. She later went on to be Miss Ole Miss in college (at Ole Miss, duh.) REALLY, REALLY nice girl, I loved that she had such a funny story to tell people.

  2. The article about the people who lost their babies was very good. I thought it’d be creepy but it actually is very touching. The picture they show is heartbreaking but gorgeous.

  3. Maybe Planned Parenthood could offer a free picture with every “visit”. A nice item to remember the trip by?

  4. First off, most people who go to Planned Parenthood are not there for abortions. And next–Not. The. Same. Thing. Not even freaking close, and pretty heartless of you to say so, there Sam.

  5. My husband’s family is big on taking pictures of dead people. When our son died (4 months) I methodically went to every person’s house and took all the pictures of our son in his casket. They are in an envelope with the polaroids the hospital took (did you know hospitals take polaroids of the dead baby?) buried in a storage shed. The only reason I haven’t burned them is Keith asked me not to.

According to the catchpa we have winans support

  6. NILMDTS reminds me of the Victorian custom of taking photography of the deceased. The photos were so beautiful and so heartbreaking.
