Thanks for the piece. I am not sure why, but this event has always struck a chord with me (no pun intended). Maybe because of youth lost or the innocence and freshness of young rock n roll becoming darker that day.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune did a good story on the Winter Dance Party Tour on January 25. Among the notables, a high schooler named Bob Dylan was at the Duluth stop of the tour and was inspired by Holly's show. The tour bus had froze up between Duluth and Green Bay, that is where one of the musicaians had frost bite. Clear Lake had been added at the last minute after another Wisconsin show. Holly couldn't stand the thought of another night on the bus and another breakdown. Hence the plane charter and the exchange with Jennings.

It is simply amazing the level of influence Buddy Holly had on music from Rock-n-Roll to even modern day C&W.
It has also been a quest of mine to investigated all the references in the song "The Day the Music Died" Thanks for the link Miss Cellania!
