I know, you see the word Pamela and immediately think Tommy Lee and sex tapes. It’s okay, we all go there from time to time. But maybe not for long: there’s a new Pamela, and she’s a nifty acronym who hails from the UK.
A Pedestrian Accessibility & Movement Environment Laboratory, or PAMELA, is now being operated by the British Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council at University College London to monitor the movements of pedestrians. The goal? Why to create safer pavement, safer bus stops, safer outdoor surfaces everywhere your fancy feet touch the ground.
Check out the whole story over at the BBC, and next time you see the word Pamela in print, maybe you’ll move your mind from one gutter to another… a safer gutter, that is.
That may be cool in an acronystic kinda way but, just like that quote from Winnie the Pooh, “I like the old Tigger better!”, I kinda like the ‘old’ Pamela better, don’t you?
