Many graphic design BFA programs (must have a "major" in the title) offer packaging design courses. But the focus is on the visual design and brand and not the technology of making boxes, bottles, and containers
There is also an excellent Jazz program at California Institute of the Arts founded by Charlie Hayden who still teaches there. It is mostly playing jazz but, that's also how you learn the history of it!

@Rachel "dumb classes on budgeting"?

Really? Knowing how to budget money is never dumb.

I majored in family and consumer sciences education at a college in Missouri. I then went on to have a successful career at a high school. There, I focused on educating students on critical thinking skills, budgeting, family life/parenting issues, nutrition, but most importantly, I focused on secondary education plans and career paths.

It once was home economics - but Family and Consumer Sciences has a different meaning and direction now. I never learned anything about focusing on the family in the biblical perspective.

A&M has Turf Management, too, IIRC. I don't think they have *any* room to call UT a bunch of hippies if they've got a major in grass! I pity the foo' who enrolls in "Weed Science" but expects something else.

At Baylor, it was pretty obvious that the Family and Consumer Sciences majors were really there for an MRS degree. I mean, so were a lot of Elementary Education majors, but the FCS gals were *majoring* in being a good wife. So sad. Why would you pay >$40K a year for common sense stuff your parents should've taught you? Go find a husband somewhere else and stop clogging all my required courses with this nonsense.

I went to Liberty University and took one of the FACS classes (Interior Design I) before Fashion and Interior splintered off. Looking at the degree completion program now, I don't understand why it isn't simply marketed as a Masters in Responsibility Studies.

Let that one sink in. Abbreviate if need be.

They also have an Aviation concentration in "Flight Attendant." Other than the classes on, "Getting the brat in 13C to shut up," and "Ways to get a terrorist to not blow up the plane," there's nothing too appealing about that one.

My college, College of the Ozarks (see "8 Tuition-Free Colleges") also offers Family and Consumer Science as a degree.

And actually, Equine Science is a program that's been doing really well. I'm going to graduate school to get my degree in equine science, and I hope to become a professor at one of the schools that offers it in a few years!

App State in Boone, NC offers a Sustainable Development course and has for some years now. The degree plan is becoming more popular around the nation, although it often depends on the school's location; such a program wasn't available at my alma mater in south Mississippi five years ago.
