The British "Office" is by far the better of the two. Not even a close call. I'm American, but I have to call it like I see it.

Back in the 1950s and '60s, several British series were imported directly to the U.S. and were very popular: The Adventures of Robin Hood, Sir Lancelot, The Buccaneers, The Avengers, The Prisoner, and Secret Agent.

All in the Family was the first remake for the American market, and I can understand why that was done.

But I wish network executives had enough respect for us viewers to consider us capable of understanding British television without having it remade. A lot of Americans have seen and loved the new Doctor Who, Torchwood, MI-5 (Spooks), Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes (British originals), and New Tricks, thanks to PBS, BBC America, or Netflix.

I watched "The Office" on BBC America and was worried about the American version. I love both but for different reasons. I find they are only similar in name, I love both styles of humor. I find no reason to choose between two great shows. Cheap way to answer? Oh well.

American Idol was based on the British Pop Idol. Simon Cowell has been breaking hearts for years... I didn't watch that when I lived in London and don't watch this version here either.

What about Whose Line is it Anyway? Always had some American comedians on the show, and still does, but I liked it much better with Clive Anderson hosting it (Drew Carey was decent in his sitcom but doesn't hack it as WLIAA host).
