http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=153wais&s=5

Not the best quality because I took it with my webcam, but anyway
It's a sword with roses the banner reads "vincit veritas", Latin for truth conquers. There is also a black rose that goes to the front, but I couldn't get it in the picture. Vincit Veritas is my family motto, and my family crest is of a sword. The whole tattoo just represents my family as a whole and their importance to me in my life. I am going to school pretty far away from home, and this tattoo is a reminder to me that even though I don't get to see them very often anymore, my family is and always will be there for me. There's good times and bad times (that's why there's a black rose), but in the end they'll always love me.

Where is this "Reader Gallery?"
I've been searching the site with no success, hoping to see the tattoo pics I sent.

I never wanted a tattoo until I moved to New Zealand...seems everyone has ink here. Much of that is in the culture, I think, with the older traditions of the Maori face/legs tattoos. I'm thinking of getting a Southern Cross on my back.

In the past (and somewhat still), what gave me pause was trying to figure out what I would look like at 80 with a tattoo. Would it still look good on an 80 year old body? Does anyone want to know that their grandma has a tattoo? I do think men age more gracefully with tattoos, for some reason.

And finally, an Ani DiFranco lyric that always plays in my head whenever I think about tattoos (from her song 'Shroud'):
"i had to leave the house of self-importance
to doodle my first tattoo
realize a tattoo is no more permanent
than i am"

vanishingtattoo.com has a great gallery of celebrity tattoos. i sometimes spend hours looking at them. i would send you pictures of mine, but they are all done in white or off-white ink and kinda hard to capture in kodak.

Oh WOW - I'm getting one of those UV tattoos! Thank you for shining a light on that wonderful form of secret self-expression. Hmmm... how about "Turn Off the Damn Black Light" printed right on my forehead?

I too am a Haunted Mansion freak, and I absolutely love your tattoo! It's a great way to show your appreciation without getting a "Disney" tattoo. It's cryptic until you choose to explain its meaning. Nice choice!

I don't have any tattoos, but only because I can't find something that I really want to get. When I see it, I'll know. My husband, on the other hand, has 16. They all mean something to him. No butterflies for me and no Yosemite Sams for him!

The Rodney Dangerfield tattoo is most likely due to his tagline "I don't get no respect" ( I bet you heard his voice just then, didn't you?)
