11:59pm Eastern time on Monday, March 16, 2008 is the deadline for entries to our “I Want To Rock In Cleveland” sweepstakes, in which we’re giving away a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland, including airfare, accommodations, and a few bucks to spend. If you’re one of the thousands who has already entered, thank you! If not, what are you waiting for? It’s one entry per customer, so your odds of winning are as good as anyone else’s. In association with the giveaway, we’ve penned some rock-related quizzes. If you missed them, you may enjoy identifying famous backing vocalists or learning if you can tell Elton John from Billy Joel. Today, something new!

Sixty-nine different artists have recorded albums that the RIAA has certified as Diamond, meaning they’ve sold at least 10 million copies in the United States. While you know (or could guess) the names of some of these albums, we’ve decided to go a different route – with less typing! – and have you key in the names of the artists who recorded these diamond-selling albums. How many of them can you remember in ten minutes?

  1. 5 minutes is just not enough time for 69 answers.

EDITORIAL NOTE: Leah, you’re right… we’ve adjusted the quiz to allow for 10 minutes.

  2. I agree, 5 minutes was not enough time

  3. You may not be able to type in all 69 in 5 minutes if you had the list in front of you. At least using my two fingered typing technique.

  4. NOTE: Your voices have been heard! I’ve adjusted the time on the quiz to a more palatable 10 minutes.

  5. Can you please adjust to allow “Hootie and the Blowfish”. It only accepts the “&” symbol… and as sad as I am to admit that I know Cracked Rearview is 16x platinum, I would like to have used that tidbit.

  6. woo hoo, more than halfway with 36 correct

  7. It is so hard to think of ALL music and not any one genre….

  8. wow, there are a lot of crappy bands on that list…

  9. No Elvis? I call shenanigans…on RIAA. Only two artists have sold 1 billion records, Elvis and the Beatles. Given that a record company must pay for an RIAA audit, I believe it calls the whole certification into question. Just my 2 cents though.

  10. Wow, that was HARD. I only got 21…and I missed some obvious ones, too, like the Bee Gees.
