I read that if you use Visine too much then it will make your eyes redder. I don't use it myself because you can't use most Visine formulas if you wear contacts. I use rewetting drops once in a while when I need to.

As far as liquid Iodine goes, it makes a great spider killer. I found a spider in an empty container. Since I was near a sink, I thought I'd try to drown it and fill the container with water. The spider floated at first, then swam to the bottom (btw, I lived in Florida at the time and I guess there's a species of swimming spiders). I looked in the medicine cabinet and found a bottle of Iodine. I poured a little in the container. The second the Idodine reached the spider, it died instantly.

I'm rather fond of the Corningware story, where they tried to invent a glass for space travel and came up with an opaque glass cooking ware suitable for oven and microwaves.

Considering the what I would call very essential need for the items listed, I wouldn't replace any on the list for Corningware. Antibiotics and anethesia are far more important.

@Norkio: The Visine "prank," besides being ineffective, is also dangerous, and perhaps deadly.

If you want to see the true story or penicillin, watch 'Breaking the Mould: The Story of Penicillin'.

Alexander Fleming may have discovered minute amounts of the stuff, but had no idea how to replicate it or even create enough for it to be any use.
