March is Poison Prevention Month, and it’s 31 days worth a second look. We found some sobering statistics while researching this quiz: Did you know that half of poisonings occur in children six years of age or younger. Perhaps even more amazingly, 84 out of every 100 adolescent poisoning deaths are the result of an intentional act, such as suicide or drug use. Scary, huh?

Learn a bit more about poison in today’s lunchtime quiz, then take a moment to scan your home and workplace for poisons that should be kept in safer places. Thanks!

  1. I don’t recall this, but when I was about 4, my mom caught me merrily chomping on the end of a poisonous plant. Freaking out, she gave me ipecac to bring it up. Five minutes later, as my tiny toddler self puked in a bowl, my mom saw the source of the “poison” – harmless clover from our yard. Apparently my mom felt so bad I got ice cream for dinner for the next two days.

  2. I got every question wrong but the first one….i think if you know that…you should live a poision free life (crosses fingers)

  3. I knew poinsettia weren’t poisonous to humans, but aren’t they poisonous to animals, particularly cats?

  4. Cladius REALLY died from choking to death on a feather. True, his wife DID give him poisonus mushrooms, but then she reconsidered and called the royal physician, who tried to make him throw up by tickling the inside of his throat with a feather, which the emperor then choked to death on.

  5. Poison, sweet! I’m great at 80’s rock trivia.
    Wait… real poison? Damn
Yes, Every Rose Has Its Thorn!

  6. Did you know the Mr Yuk sticker came from the University of Pittsburgh? Would explain why we had them all over when I was a kid. (grew up in pitt)
