After we floated the idea of a dog breed quiz, our loyal readers overwhelmed our inbox with photos of their dogs. We’ve picked 15 of those pictures. How well do you know your dog breeds?
Seriously, trying to guess what a mixed breed is mixed with is like trying to separate raindrops once they get in a puddle. Could be anything in there.
And just a little complaint: In question number two, the dog is too far away from the camera to decipher what it could be. For all I could tell, it looked like a big ball of black fur.
I actually thought it was easy and fun. I only missed one. You need to correct the basset crossbreed. It says “spring” spaniel rather than “springer”, and I thought it was a trick question.
Poco Zucca in Italian means Not Enough (or small minded) Pumpkin. But it should be written Poca Zucca, because Zucca is feminine. So the people that named that dog A: have a silly inside joke regarding the dog, B: think the dog is an idiot, or C: really like pumpkin and can’t get enough. But really… if someone is going to name something in a language that they don’t really know, I think some SERIOUS research should be done first.
The authors of the quiz asked people to submit mixed breeds only if they know what the breeds are. My dog, who was included in the quiz, was an accidental breeding between two purebred dogs.
Ok, while I’m not like SUPER angry, I think a more appropriate quiz name would be “guess what this mutt is mixed with!” I expected normal-looking breeds of dogs and to guess them, but it takes a TON of cross breeding to make a homogenous looking new breed. Example: the puggle people know and love sometimes comes out looking WAYYYY different. I do pug rescue, I should know! Click the link on my name to go to my flickr, my mixed-breed baby is there… barely ANYONE can guess her true heritage… she’s a Bugg, aka Boston Terrier/Pug mix. I think this quiz was just… not what was expected, and slightly disappointing. I would LOVE a “what breed is this” quiz with clear one-breed photos, and then a “guess the mix” quiz.
As a the owner of a yellow lab, I take offense to the breed being called “golden” in one of the questions. Sure, it was phrased correctly later on in the quiz, but seriously people,GOLDEN = Retriever, YELLOW = Labrador. I didn’t expect this site to spread ignorance.
While my big ball of awesome wasn’t included, I still really liked the quiz. I scored a 9/15 and got most of the mixes right. Some dogs are pure mutt, but if you look for some distinctions you can usually find them. For instance, with Kelly’s dog, if the choice was oug mixed with a) beagle and b)boston terrier, I’d have chosen b. That’s obviously not a puggle.
One suggestion only, and yes I have a personal stake in it. No pit at all? Not even just one? They get persecuted enough without being shunned from harmless quizzes. People should see happy, healthy pits instead of the vicious killers people like to think about.
I second the Bernese. She’s beautiful!! And the GoldenDoodle? I hate poodles, but the mix of the two is adorable!
In hindsight, I wish I had known about the quiz, I would have submitted my pups! I have a Rottie/Shepherd and a Border Collie/Flatcoat mix. No one has yet to guess them right. Oh well…
This quiz is like looking at a picture of a white person and asking if they are Russian or English.

I don’t know what the big complaints are all about! If nothing else, you get to look at cool dogs on your lunch break.

RE: Jason…
How about a cat version? I have had a couple cats that are actual breeds rather than just “a furry fur ball thing”, ha.

I know this probably isn’t what you were after, Shelly, but I can’t resist. Here’s a closer picture of Elvis:

Elvis is the cutest! Although maybe I’m biased, since he IS my dog.
But this quiz is full of great dogs, I think they should do another one with new dogs, or a cat quiz!
