THE SOLUTION:

3,263,442. Each number gets plugged into the equation (# x #) + #. So:

(1 x 1) + 1 = 2.
(2 x 2) + 2 = 6.
(6 x 6) + 6 = 42.
(42 x 42) + 42 = 1,806.
(1,806 x 1,806) + 1,806 = 3,263,442.

Another way of looking at it is that each subsequent number is the previous number multiplied by itself-plus-one. Thus:

1 x (1 + 1) = 2.
2 x (2 + 1) = 6.
6 x (6 + 1) = 42.
42 x (42 + 1) = 1,806.
1,806 x (1,806 + 1) = 3,263,442.
