OK, I admit it. I haven't watched ski jumping in a while but....

QUOTE:After this triumph, the “Windisch technique” became the dominant jumping technique until 1985.

What is the dominant jumping technique now?

Great catch Jim (et al). The 64 error was my fault! Sorry about that... that important last digit was a casualty of my cut and paste.

Before he became a pro, Jason Belmonte was killing the competition at the international amateur ranks. A truly unorthodox release. All we need now is a Taiwanese "spin/helicopter" bowler to win in the PBA to really change the way people approach the game.

BTW, his eleventh strike in that vid was badly thrown. It's too "head pin high" and he almost had a "brooklyn" with a "ringing nine". Very lucky indeed.

Place kicking definitely did look odd back in the day. When Elam tied the 63 yard field goal record in 98, I remember seeing clips of the previous record holder. He kicked with the front of his foot, but if I remember correctly, he didn't have toes.

Ummm...even though I live in the Dallas area I'm going to assume that the Giants career scoring record is higher than '64 points'. Otherwise, great post.

Great post! But as a Giants fan, I must point out Gogolak scored 646 points in his career, not 64. (Otherwise it would be a pretty embarrassing team record!)
