Cows on a Boat
by Mangesh Hattikudur - April 4, 2009 - 11:17 AM

Picture 4.pngA couple days back, The Cellar featured this wonderful old pic of cows being transported by boat in Giethoorn, Netherlands. Apparently, in the older parts of the village, there aren’t many roads. So farmers still use boats to take the cows from their winter barns to summer fields for grazing. It seems like it should be a tricky operation, but the cows look pretty calm about it all.

  1. That’s actually pretty neat!

  2. Now that’s what I call floating your stocks. He’ll do well in this economy.

  3. can cows swim?

  4. This is still done, afaik, in parts of France. There’s a place called la Vendée where they have canals and the cows are used to a little boat trip to get to greener pastures.

  5. That village looks like it’s straight out of a fairytale!
