I went to school at Texas A&M in College Station, and there was a guy called Bernie (I think), and he would pull himself up and hold himself straight horizontal from street signs. There are tshirts and facebook groups dedicated to this guy!

As a UW Madison alum, I’m so glad we made the list twice! I’ve had a couple encounters with Scanner Dan and definitely remember the piccolo guy as well.

There was a guy in Coconut Grove, FL who used to go around on roller skates dressed as a fairy and put quarters in expired parking meters before the meter maids would come around. He was called “The Parking Meter Fairy”.

It’s interesting Jennifer Gale made this list. I’ve always thought Leslie Cochran was the more notable of Austin’s local characters (and he’s still alive, too boot).
