I enjoyed this article - I never knew Eddie Albert was such an influential environmentalist. However, I think the article should also include mention of Rachael Carson, whose book "Silent Spring" exposed the dangers of pesticides such as DDT and was instrumental in its banning.

Birthday is coincidence. He was born on the original Arbor day as founded by JS Morton. Nebraska's Arbor day is now Earth Day

I see no info corroborating that his birthday was deliberately selected as the date for Earth Day.

But I did not know of his activism, and so I'm glad you wrote about it here.

My roommate and I have decided that he is our hero! You gotta love a guy who dedicates his life to making the world a better place in so many ways, (and with such a sense of humor). I got curious, so I looked up his profile on imdb.com. Get this:

Prior to his acting career, Eddie Albert gathered intelligence for the U.S. government of movements in the Pacific and Baja regions, while working as a featured trapeze artist in a Mexican circus [sic?].

That fantastic little tidbit MADE MY DAY. I can see the T-shirt now . . . made entirely of 100% organic/post-consumer recycled fibers, of course.

Thank you for this great article. I always enjoyed Eddie Albert's straight man act playing off all of the Hooterville crazies. The information about his Earth Day association is great. I also enjoyed learning about his WWII experience.
