So, I just got all the answers to the quiz right and I was really proud of myself. When I told my husband, he said, “wow, that’s great — what’s that flower out in our garden, then?”

No idea.

While I hate to nit-pick, there are two issues that I have with this quiz:

#7 – You have both Narcissus and Daffodil as answers. Technically they are both correct. Narcissus is the botanic (scientific) name of that plant and others related to it (like jonquils). Daffodil is the common English name of the plant in the picture. Both answers are correct.

#10 While the flowers pictured do indeed look like daisies, I believe that this is actually a chrysanthemum with daisy-like flowers. Daisy-flowered chrysanthemums are fairly common. Usually the name daisy is used when referring to something like a common daisy.

Unless you show the leaves there is no way to distinguish between a daisy and a daisy-form chrysanthemum. Here is a partial definition:
Any of several plants of the composite family, especially a widely naturalized Eurasian plant (Chrysanthemum leucanthemum) having flower heads with a yellow center and white rays. Daisy-form mums come in colors other than white and I wouldn’t be surprised if the photo shown in your quiz is actually one of chrysanthemums.

What is the difference between daffodils and narcissus?

None. The two words are synonyms. Narcissus is the Latin or botanical name for all daffodils, just as ilex is for hollies. Daffodil is the common name for all members of the genus Narcissus, and its use is recommended by the ADS at all times other than in scientific writing.
