What about Grand Theft Auto? The car was taken without owner's knowledge or permission... sounds pretty cut & dry to me.

Of course this all pales in comparison to Jeffery Jones's (Principal Rooney) real-life crimes:

In 2002, Jones was arrested for possession of child pornography and employing a 14-year-old boy to pose for pornographic photographs. Jones pleaded no contest to the felony charges and was ordered to undergo counseling and register as a sex offender. In July 2004, he was arrested by Florida police after failing to notify them of his change of residence as required under Florida's version of Megan’s Law. After the minor became an adult, he sued Jones in civil court.

I think what has happened to Matthew Broderick's face in the last few years has been punishment enough.

This post just made my day. Thank you!

My favorite so far:
"Also Rooney's admin, Grace - sniffing the white out seems like a drug violation. "

If I try to kill someone, but I fail because I don't know how to fire a gun properly, I'm pretty sure I've still committed a crime.

Kevin, using your analogy, what they did was attempted robbery, actually caring out the act in an attempt to succeed. Just because they failed is besides the point.

And now for my rant:

They had planned to tamper with the odometer but they never got the chance after Cameron caused the car to crash into the woods. I don't know that running the car in reverse with the "intent" to make the odometer run backwards would actually constitute breaking the law since they weren't actually successful at it. If I'm in a bank and I think to myself, "This bank would be really easy to rob, all I would have to do is x, y, and z" have I committed a crime?
