Through Facebook groups, updated versions and even an iPhone app, the classic video game The Oregon Trail has survived much longer than any player ever did in the game. See how well you remember the game with our quiz. We can’t promise you’ll make it to the end without getting dysentery, though.

  1. Sucked on that quiz! It’s funny, though, just about 30 minutes ago, I Googled searched to play Oregon Trail online.

  2. This was my most favorite game ever back in the 6th grade. It came to mind a few years ago and it took some time to find the original. Now my kids love it too!

  3. We used to have Oregon Trail day at our school, I think once a week. It was definitely the highlight of the whole week.

  4. I must be too young to remember this game or maybe I just never played it. We didn’t get a game console in our house until Sega Genesis came out. All my friends were Mario pros, but I never had the chance to learn. I was pretty awesome at Sonic though.

  5. Not to be a stickler, but technically, later versions of the game allowed the hunting to look like a third-person shooter, not a first person shooter. You never looked through the hunter’s eyes to kill. Otherwise, neat quiz. I got an 80%.

  6. Ah, the memories of 5th grade! When I got my iPhone, one of the first apps I downloaded was Oregon Trail. The newer versions seem easier than the one 19 years ago, or maybe that’s because I was 10 then and not as smart.

  7. 80% Missed the 1 about hunting and the spin-offs.
I was sure when I played (mid-late 80′s) that you used the arrow keys to move the hunter and space bar to shoot…

@ Bob Actually in the 90′s there were a couple (at least that I know of) versions where you hunted in 1st person.

It’s funny I just pulled out OT2 (’94) the other day to show my daughter – she didn’t like it much as the member with her name got Cholera and died. Poor thing.

  8. I forgot to put this in the post, but in case nostalgia got the better of you, you can play the original version online at this site: virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html

  9. I never made it to Oregon. My oxen always died when I tried to ford the river.
