		<description>I have scads of my own spectacular fad diet failure stories (hello phenfen!), but my favorite one is actually from my childhood and has to do with my mother.

I wasn&#039;t more than 6 or 7 when AIDS started being a prevalent topic on the news.  My mother (who started me on perma-diets at a young age) happened to have a box of AYDS appetite suppressants in the cookie jar (!) in the kitchen.  

I was a very literal child, so when news reports appeared talking about AIDS and how it was fatal if you had it... I spent *quite* a long time with the hidden fear that my mom was dying from taking AYDS.</description>

Eating too few calories can cause you to go into what some people call &quot;starvation mode&quot; where the body tries to preserve fat and excess calories to prepare for a period of fasting.  Many other factors affect weight as well, such as hormones (related to stress, growth, metabolism, reproduction, etc.) and vary immensely from person to person.

Take home message: Eat healthy, non-processed foods (Fruits and veggies, lean meats/proteins, etc.) and exercise regularly.</description>
