what makes me sad about the von trapps is how basically Maria was swindled out of her rights and how no one’s ever tried to even make it right-20th century fox outright lied to get her to sign the movie rights.

It’s interesting that the children of these enormous families often wind up not having very many children of their own. The eleven surviving Gilbreths had only 29 children, and the biggest family among them had just four. The 20 Beardsley children accounted for only 44 children of their own. Carrie Dukes of the 20-child Dukes family of Seattle had just one of her own, and she said that was “more than enough” for her.

As wonderful a singer as Julie Andrews is, Maria von Trapp sings circles around her in that clip. She makes Julie sound flat and dull. What a rich voice!

And according to multiple peices of paperwork Maria was 7 months pregnant when she married the Captain. The family later claimed that the eldest wasn’t born until 1929 but the birth certificate and her oat of naturalization are for 1928. Not that it really matters but it does make the beautiful nun church scene a little different!
