Brain Game: 2010 is Coming!
by Sandy Wood - May 13, 2009 - 7:30 AM

THE ANSWER:

THURSDAY.

The only way for a 31-day month (like December) to have exactly 4 Mondays and 4 Fridays is if the first day of the month is on Tuesday, and the last day of the month is on Thursday.

So, to answer the question, this coming December, New Year’s Eve will occur on Thursday, December 31, 2009.

Friday, January 1 will be the first day of 2010.

  1. The Day before January 1st!

    aka Thursday

  2. The easiest way to figure this out is that 4 of each day would be 28 days, so you just need three more days to get to 31, New Years Eve. Three days from Friday is Monday, which we know it cannot be, while three days from Monday is Thursday.

  3. No, the easiest way to figure this out is to have a birthday on Dec. 25 and know that New Year’s Day is always the same day of the week as your birthday.

  4. ugh. I figured out the first day of December is Tuesday and was so excited, I forgot the goal of the game. I’m still counting it!

  5. I agree with LoriPop…I know New Year’s Day is always on the same day of the week as my 12/4 birthday. Piece of cake ;)

  6. Wednesday. I’m going with Wednesday. Wednesday, Dec. 31st, 2009.

  7. Did anyone else realize that December is a blue moon month?
