I believe women have earned more in professional tennis than men for at least a few years now. Also, I may be wrong, but I believe in the battle of the sexes Riggs out lines were the doubles lines while King’s out lines were the singles lines, meaning Riggs had a significantly larger court to defend. May be wrong on that though.

The King v Riggs match was a joek and a disgrace which actually set the women’s movement back.

As for Erin’s comment: Women shouldn’t get paid the same in sports if the product the sell isn’t equal to the competition. And while there are pay gaps in certain professions there are valid reasons for that as well.

Demanding equal pay just for the sake of it is absurd.

Fun article, but women still make significantly less in pro sports than their male counterparts. Actually, the pay gap still exists in all professions, sports or otherwise!

I haven’t looked it up but I thing=k Riggs would have won either 1959 or 1969, not 1939. If he had, no wonder BJK beat him at tennis.
