One of my various childhood fascinations was maps. I had a great-uncle who traveled extensively – no one was ever able to give me a straight answer as to why, so I’m just going to assume he was in the ol’ import/export business – and he brought me maps as well as foreign coins that spoke to all of these endlessly interesting countries that I could only dream about visiting when I grew up. (I’ve been to sixteen now as well as Bermuda, but let me warn all of you would-be globehoppers: Do your traveling before you have kids.)

The interest in geography extended to anything related to foreign countries, from lists of capitals to foreign languages to border changes to all of the various international organizations that, at the time, seemed important to me. (Ah, the innocence of youth.) So in that vein, can you name the ten countries in ASEAN – the Association of Southeast Asian Nations – in 5 minutes?
