How about the Baltimore Orioles? If you vote the maximum number of times for the All Star Game, you get a free upper reserved ticket (non-Yankees/Red Sox, of course) for after the All Star break. Desperation indeed!

Once upon a time, the Charleston Riverdogs (Yankee Single-A affiliate) had a "Tanya Harding Night." Tanya was there to greet the crowd, and the first 1,000 fans received one of those tiny wooden baseball bats. I love that.

(They also once set the record for lowest attendance with a crowd of zero (another 'promotion'. Some brilliant promotions there...some...not so great).

#8 is perfect. Being from NY, there is no end to the stories and jokes about how little the Yankee brass are in touch with the regular-guy game goer. When you have the most expensive team, and I use the term 'team' loosely, you must forgo the attendance of games by fans. But that's the joke - since Yankees fans scream how their team is the best and then can't afford to go to a game and root them on.

Ugh, I'm not insulted by the offers for the women's night, but even those give-aways wouldn't get me to a baseball game. Baseball is BORING!

What about "Disco Demolition Night" in 1979 when everyone brought their disco records to the ballpark and they were exploded in centerfeild?
