Actually, 'Hello Dolly', Cameron's film from 1997 is probably the most accurate portrayal (save for the underlying "love story" between Jack and Rose) of the events ever put on film. Cameron felt the actual events were compelling enough, but feared lack of commercial success unless he interwove the fictional Jack/Rose story into his movie.

Despite this, Cameron took great pains to be as historically accurate as possible. In fact, the car in which Jack and Rose's love scene takes place was an exact replica (down to the bud vases) of the Renault automobile that was actually in the cargo hold of the Titanic.

What an awesome, informative piece! So sad about Ms. Dean's passing.
Wish the movie would have shown more of what really happened except for that woman hogging the raft at the end!

Ironically, because of the Titanic a law was passed requiring more life boats on ships. One of those refitted was the S.S. Eastland. Because of the etra weight of the new lifeboats, the already top heavy ship rolled on it's side killing 845 people. It was docked in the Chicago River at the time.

Another piece of history that has now completely passed from direct human memory to the pages of history books. Things like this always make me marvel at the passage of time and human history.
