I nearly laughed myself to death looking at that picture of one-eyed Zola. How adorable is it that bookstores all over the country have adopted cute mascots. My favorite store "Twice Sold Tales" in Seattle, WA has an adorable store cat that I make sure to always pet when I come around. My apartment doesn't allow cats otherwise this would have inspired me to consider heading down to the humane society and picking up a little critter.

I Worked with Pringles for almost 8 years. The store was then known as RW Books, before it was sold. Pringles came from the local animal shelter in Manassas and adjusted well to celebrity. She was frequently pictured with patrons and even made the local paper from time to time. She was very friendly and was a fun co-worker. As a kitten, she loved to play with string and packing straps, she also liked to walk along the bookcase adjacent to the balcony. I haven't seen her in some time, but I think about her often.

A Novel Idea in fact held a contest where customers could donate to a jar for either of two local shelters, with the proceeds going to and new cat coming from that shelter. In the end, A Novel Idea donated each jar to their respective shelters and received two cats who now keep the store very well-kept!

I stumbled upon this and when I saw the title I hoped that Mr. B would be on here! I used to go to my grandparents' house near Woodstock and always go to that bookstore...I loved Mr. B! I also remember the cats at Gillingham's that Jess mentioned...great town for store cats, Woodstock.

When Curiosity Book Store in Rogers, AR, was open, they had a cat named Dickens. He was the most friendly cat I ever met, to include the cats I've had. He would always come up and greet the customers by rubbing against their leg. He always seemed to recognize the regulars (myself included), and preferred to be petted by them. It was quite customary for me to go into the store during the summer, reading a good book (that I had purchased there, of course), and petting Dickens while he sat in my lap and purred happily.

I was ust about to post about Wild Rumpus. They have one of those white chickens with the funky feathers on the head named Elvis (though there have been several reincarnations of Elvis). It's sort of a petting zoo atmosphere. Also, I worked for the Jungle Theatre, a local theatre company, and they would sometimes do children's theatre on the weekends and bring the WIld Rumpus animals in for a specaial treat. Elvis often figured into the script.

Also worth noting is Wild Rumpus in Minneapolis - the store has several roaming Manx cats, as well as a chicken with free reign throughout the store; they've also got large cages with ferrets, chinchillas, a variety of birds, a tarantula, reptiles, and a couple of rats hidden in the mystery section.
