The “legal” name of my university is The Ohio State University. This has caused a few laughs and some poking of fun but at the end of the day we will accept the following:

Ohio State University
Ohio State
OSU

We all know who/what is being referred to; whats the big deal?

About the university name, that’s not something this person is randomly making up, it’s actually the LEGAL name of the university, so calm down. It’s important LEGALLY.

My comment is this: Interesting that there is just ONE female on this list!

Sorry, guys, but if you’re taking such offense to someone calling your University by a certain name (one that is not rude or anything…simply just another name) it’s pretty pathetic that you are in or have graduated from that university to begin with. If your university prefers to be called one thing specifically, they can hold a press conference if it is THAT important to them. I do not think that you as a student are at liberty to speak for your university, or a department of your university, as a whole.

Like Wally said, it’s not an acronym, which Kendall confirmed… “a word…” LSU is not a word, unless you were to pronounce it elsue… Acronyms are abbreviations, but abbreviations aren’t necessarily acronyms.

Here’s the definition according to Merriam-Webster:

“a word (as NATO, radar, or laser) formed from the initial letter or letters of each of the successive parts or major parts of a compound term”

Louisiana State University = LSU
