Not exactly a proposal but similar.

December 1935 - Frank and Clara meet through mutual friends and go on a date. At the end of the date Frank walks Clara to her door, and as part of the 'Good Night' he asks, "So, is there going to be a second date?" Clara's response was, "NOT if I can help it!" Something changed her mind because they married in October 1936. Were still married when Frank died in 1991 (Clara in 2002). They were my grandparents.

I have commented on this like a million times on every site that posts it bc it annoys me so much that it keeps making the rounds - but the second one is totally staged. A lot of the "proposal fail" ones are. Can people seriously not tell when the see poorly trained actors at work? ha.

Sad, embarrassing situations, but... I happen to be of the opinion (as is my husband), that the guy should not ask the girl to marry him until he is absolutely sure of the answer, emotionally prepared to marry her that day, and if it's to be a public proposal, certain that she's into that kind of thing.

The worst I ever personally witnessed happened at Texas Tech during the annual Christmas light lighting ceremony. A guy who was in the ROTC color guard got his girlfriend up on stage during the big show and asked her to marry him. Her response is forever burned into my brain: "Let me think about it."

Translation: I don't want to marry you, but I also don't want to publicly humiliate you either.
