In Niskayuna, New York, they play a life sized local version of Monopoly called "Niska-game" every year for charity. The middle schoolers sign up in teams and take turns being the piece on the board, rolling the enormous knee-high dice, and strategizing. If I recall correctly, the earnings for the event are donated to charity and a lot of the community gets involved, helping with running the bank (an actual person behind a bank building facade), coaching the teams, and selling food.

Some friends of mine have "Stoner City" which is knock-off Monopoly but based all on, you guessed it, marijuana. Some of the tokins, oops, tokens, are water pipes and the like, and I think instead of a hotel you have a giant 7-rayed leaf....I think. I can't really remember...

On one of my sister's birthday's she received a game called "Laredopoly." You could buy the local radio stations and different businesses around our city. It's somewhere in our garage now. I'll need to take a picture of it someday.

I thought it was cool at the time!

The company that makes Monoply also cranks out a million different versions. The best down here is the Auburn and Alabama versions. Once a friend wanted to play the Auburn version but I refused to touch that board!

KJ & Eric:

The first time I ever saw a Chocolate version of Monopoly was in the annual Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog, featured as a low-cost alternative perhaps to your own private jet and an African Safari for four.

If I recall correctly, the game sold for around $150.00 (during the late 70s/early 80s).

Having grown up in California, I can only imagine how quickly that board might have melted if it was a particularly warm December!
