The Late Movies: Absurdly Young Virtuosos

If there’s one thing people seem to love watching on YouTube, it’s little kids rocking. Lucky for them, there are plenty of musical prodigies out there to sate their demand. Here are a few of my favorites!

Seven-year-old drummer
Jacob Armen was just seven when this video was recorded, and he’s better than most adult drummers I know.

Nine-year-old metal guitarist
You might have heard of Japanese metal kid Yuto Miyazawa, famous for covering Ozzy Ozbourne songs on his big-than-he-is electric guitar. Check him out on the Ellen Degeneres Show. Now all he’s got to learn is how to smash his guitar and set it on fire when it’s all over.

Six-year-old piano virtuoso
Emily Bear comes from a musical family — her brother plays the guitar, her sister plays the harp and her grandmother was a concert pianist — but Emily’s got a musical genius that lessons alone can’t impart.

Eleven-year-old violin prodigy
In his time, Paganini was known as a virtuoso among virtuosos — so for a little girl to be able to tackle some of his most difficult material (and with such panache) is simply jaw-dropping.

Two-year-old piano genius
If you thought these other kids were impressive, check out this two year old! I mean, she’s not even looking at the keys while she plays.

  1. The two year old isn’t playing.

  2. Emily Bear is astounding. The most impressive thing is not her playing, which is pretty amazing, but her composing. Uncanny. Give her a few years and cross your fingers nothing goes wrong.. and she will blow all our minds.

  3. hm…the 2-year old has an old man’s big, hairy hands ;-)

  4. That two year old is wearing a wedding ring? I don’t think so! She is wearing a baggy coat and an adult had put his/her arms through the sleeves of the coat to pretend the kid is playing piano.

  5. Also given the fact that at the end a 3rd smaller hand appears to take hold of her sucker proves she’s an alien. A species that has 2 oversized hands and 1 little hand.

  6. Uhh, it’s pretty obvious that last one was a joke. Lighten up, folks!

  7. Wow, thanks guys for pointing out the 2 year old imposter. I never would have picked up on that in a million years, although the lollipop finale was curious…

  8. I agree with you Tamsyn, it was extremely obvious that the last video was a joke. I can’t believe it got as many comments as it did about it being ‘fake.’

  9. Thank you Jim and Jill. I was really astounding at how few people got the joke. Anyway, great article

  10. *i was astounded (not astounding) But see this proves my point, i can’t even type a grammatically correct english sentence and i still got that the last video was a joke.

  11. It’s amazing how young these kids are starting out. The only instrument I can play is the harmonica.

  12. The only instrument I can play is a jug.

  13. Yuto blew me away. And I can’t even imagine how great he felt hearing his idol tell him he’s impressed!

At his age, I could play the radio like it was no one’s business.
