About the Odd Couple Story, as I heard it, the concept was based on Neil Simon's brother,Danny Simon, and his post-divorce life. If you'll remember the play and film, the sloppy/neat dichotomy wasn't very imporant then.
Later on, in developing the TV show, Jack Klugman brought with him stories of his days with an obsessively neat roommate. That roommate was Charles Bronson, and Jack was the sloppy one.

the original plan for the motion picture the mechanic called for bronson and his co star jan michael vincent to become lovers. this part of the plot was removed without anything else being changed about the interactions of the co stars. it is really a love story and that is why the film seems so "existentialist", bronson was playing a gay guy and evidently didn't realize it.

It's great to a see such a long-lasting marriage, particularly by Hollywood standards.

Having said that, I personally would've chosen 'The Man from Uncle'.

off topic -anyone know of somewhere i can find the complete 'IF...' 1968, Lindsay Anderson. Most but not all has been posted to Daily Motion site

@mateo: I do know that he was roommates with Jack Klugman at one time. Perhaps this is what you're thinking of?

I thought I read somewhere that Neil Simon was friendly with Bronson and based his play "The Odd Couple" on the relationship between Bronson ( the proverbial slob), and his extra clean roomate ..... Walter Mathau. Mathau based his charactor portrayal of the slob based Bronson.

Anyone care to comment?

A perfect quote in time for Father's Day:

"Don't you ever say that again about your fathers, because they are not cowards! You think I'm brave because I carry a gun? Well, your fathers are much braver, because they carry responsibility — for you, your brothers, your sisters, and your mothers. And this responsibility is like a-a big rock that weighs a ton. It bends and it twists them until finally it buries them under the ground."
- The Magnificent Seven

(Personally, I thought Charles Bronson was more menacing with the mustache; I barely recognized him without it in Once Upon a Time in the West.)
