Sure, you’re proud of all those famous books on your bookshelf – but how many of them have you read? Let’s find out. In this quiz, we’ll show you a vertical strip xeroxed from the text. We want you, using the font and the out-of-context words you can discern, to tell us what the book is.

(And a side note before we begin: we can’t claim credit for this idea. Lit Slits debuted in January 1993 at Williams College’s semi-annual Trivia Contest. Special thanks to Des and Daniel for their assistance).

  1. great idea!

  2. Love this quiz!! I like the mix of Sci-fi, popular fiction and classics. I’ve got to have more of these!

  3. Great idea for a quiz! I got 80%, though I had to guess at a few.

  4. 7/10 and half of those I guessed strictly by the fonts.

  5. 80%. I am shocked! This was a good one (maybe I wouldn’t say that if I had done poorly)

  6. 8/10.

I had only read one of these books, The Sun Also Rises, seen 3 movies, All The President’s Men, Watchmen, and To Kill A Mockingbird, and one adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew (Moonlighting)

  7. Wow, 100% and I’ve only read 3 of them (plus I think I’ve seen just that scene from The Sun Also Rises movie). I’m surprised fonts weren’t as helpful as I thought they would be – I didn’t recognize the Harry Potter font and I’m re-reading it right now.

    More please :)

  8. Best. Quiz. Ever. 70%

  9. Thanks, everyone! Glad to hear you like the idea.

  10. Love it! I can’t wait for LS VII! 80%, would have been higher if I listened to my instincts.

  11. That was great! More, please.

  12. Awesome quiz! Keep them coming :)

  13. Consider me in the ‘This quiz was awesome’ camp. 8/10

  14. Wow! Great quiz!!
