Not to nitpick, but in the interest of clarity could you fix the bit on Sam Patch to say that the Genesee River is in Rochester and not the source of Niagara Falls, as the article suggests?

I was there when the 7 year old went over the falls; I was about 10 yrs old at the time. We were on the Canadian side, doing the tourist thing. I don't remember a lot about it except for the crowds of people at the railings, all trying to get a glimpse of the rescue. My sister wanted to go on the Maid of the Mist, but I was scared to go.

Not sure if it was Trotter or Soucek that didn't get hurt when he went over the falls but shortly afterwards broke his neck falling out of a tree while pruning it.

I visited Niagara Falls with my family back in 1984, and the day after we returned home was the day Soucek pulled his stunt.

I remember being mad that I missed it, and my mother lectured me on how one should never do anything so stupid.

I live in Niagara Falls Canada...we still get these "daredevils" quite often. A couple recent ones come to mind were people who literally stood on the fence and dove off the brink. Both survived and are now in freak shows in Detroit. But more often than not, idiots who think they are invisible or have something to prove dive off the gorge down stream then realize the current is too strong and go over. We have "floaters" a few times a week.
