THE SOLUTION:
The sixth team that Tim likes is the Dodgers. The reason? Each team plays its home games in a ballpark named after the team:
The Angels play at Angels Stadium;
The Nationals play at Nationals Park;
The Orioles play at Oriole Park;
The Rangers play at Rangers Ballpark;
The Yankees play at (New) Yankee Stadium; and
The Dodgers play at Dodger Stadium.
Horrible puzzle since the rangers play at “The ballpark in Arlington” not “Rangers Ballpark”.
AUTHOR’S NOTE:
From Sandy, the horrible puzzle writer: Wyatt, you might want to check the Rangers’ official site. They consistently refer to the place as Rangers Ballpark in Arlington: http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/tex/ballpark/index.jsp

The Orioles play at Camden Yards. And no one ever likes the Orioles AND the Yankees…

I’m a Yankee fan but Joe and Don are still my favorite manager and coach.
We were just at YANKEE Stadium for a tour on Saturday.

Spoken like a true Red Sox fan Caitlin, lol. i’m a die-hard Orioles fan btw. more to the topic, it’s also worthy to note that all these teams have links to the original teams when the league first formed.

Caitlin, I double-checked my list against the info at MLB.com. They refer to it as “Oriole Park at Camden Yards,” so I had to include it in the list. I know fans call it Camden Yards, but wanted to at least explain why it was included.

@ Caitlin: The Orioles play at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It’s referred to as Camden Yards for short, just like the state of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations is referred to as simply Rhode Island.
@ Sandy: Where on the page was LAD? I’m more interested in that part of the puzzle since I clearly missed it!

The O’s play at Oriole Park at Camden Yards…

Bri, the question listed five of the six teams that Tim liked, and asked for the name of the sixth – that’s where the Dodgers came in. (Hope I’m answering the right question there!)

correction on my post…the angels are the only team of the group that can’t trace their origins back to the beginning of MLB. however, 1966 was a long time ago.

Ooooooh I totally misread that! I thought by “this page” you meant mental_floss! I knew the answer but was frustrated by my apparent lack of observational skills. Oops!

Gotcha, Bri. I changed the text from “this page” to “that page” to make it clearer. Thanks for the heads-up!

I thought the answer were the teams with the most empty seats for home games. Red Sox 8 – Yankees 0 with 10 games to paly.

I got Chicago Cubs because these are all the cities in which Tim lived. This is a fact.

huh…you know I’ve lived in Baltimore for almost 6 years now and I didn’t know that. Thank you mental_floss, for my daily tidbit of knowledge.

Sandy, you just don’t understand. Orioles’ fans cannot be Yankees’ fans.

i’m noticing quite a few Orioles fans here lol. Back in 1991 and before, Baltimore wouldn’t have been on that list. it was in ‘92 when they moved into Oriole Park in Camden Yards. Before then, they played in Memorial Stadium.

My dad has a Memorial Stadium brick, Steven.
I love Camden Yards though. It’s so pretty. And we get the Crab Shuffle and the condiment race, two of the best games in MLB.

I definitely never would have gotten this without the list of all the teams and info. I did notice that the last syllable of all the teams was composed of four letters, but thought of at least two teams (Gi-ANTS and Pa-DRES) that fit, so I knew that wasn’t it. Plus, that would be a horribly ridiculous reason to root for a team. GO BRAVES!!!!
