You don't have to do that much damage to a sub to take it down. Nuke torpedoes are generally referred to as "fleet torpedoes" - as in you hit one surface vessel and take out the whole fleet. The Air Force deployed (but never used) the Genie nuclear air-to-air missile. It was designed to vaporize a whole flight of incoming Russian bombers. F-106 interceptors carried them into the 1970's. I had an eenvironmental science class in College a year or so ago and did a report on "Nuclear Waste Disposal" I had to go into what atomic/nuclear energy is including bombs.... if you havent checked out any of this stuff you should it is very interesting and enlightening as to how people think nuclear energy is a horrible thing but our best bet at cleaning our environment I loved this article.
