This is one of my favorite documentaries. I own it and I watch it frequently. I find his 11 lessons as not lessons for war or business, but as lessons for life.

I feel he has learned from his mistakes in life and he wants to share the wisdom he has gained from it. I also believe him to be sincere in his efforts.

My favorite is number "8.Be prepared to reexamine your reasoning"

I don't think that enough of us are willing to truly reassess our past actions. More of us are unwilling to admit that we made mistakes. Even more of us are unwilling to state aloud that we made mistakes.

Despite his actions, he did what he felt was right.

Learn from him and take his lesson to heart.

I agree that this documentary was fascinating: McNamara is brilliantly intelligent, lucid, analytical and very human. The examples he gives to illustrate his points, or lessons, are incredible insights into 20th century history, particularly those with respect to the Cuban missle crisis and his involvement in the bombing of Japanese cities during WWII. I also agree that few if any current public figures would be capable much less willing to admit to and review their failings and failures as a means of teaching future generations the benefit of what was, or should have been, learned from the experiences of the Vietnam war.

Chris,

I loved this documentary. It really gave an insight as to what happens in the walls of the Whitehouse. I think they were a lot of parallels between McNamara and Rumsfeld. It made me wonder if old Don wasn't just a scapegoat.

Chris!

I think I saw this at Cinema 21 with you the night of its debut (in Portland, at least.)

It is also one of my favorite documentaries...I can't imagine Donald Rumsfeld ever reflecting on his decisions like this.
