If you’re the sort of person who resents when your roommates and friends repeatedly steal your favorite mug, boy do we have the solution for you. Meet the Lock Cup, the ingenious invention from industrial designer Efrat Gommeh. Simply insert the key when you want to fill up on your favorite beverage, and remove it when you want to make sure no one else can drink from it. Sure, the invention seems a little “dog in the manger-ish”, but on the other hand, it looks like a hole lot of fun. Click here to view more.

That’s very clever, but the problem is that it would NEVER be my favorite mug….

Looks neat! Sadly, this is just begging for some co-worker to sue you after putting his finger over the hole and filling it with piping hot coffee in an attempt to thwart your effort to prevent him from using the mug.
Knowing me, though, I’d just lose the key, rendering the device useless.
(Yes, I’m one of those “the mug is half empty” sort of guys. In this case, though, it would be completely empty.)

This would be a useful device for draining the sludge from the office coffee. Also a lawsuit waiting to happen when the plug pops out.

Now that is clever! They’ve got to come up with something more stylish than a tapered white cup if it’s going to be anyone’s favorite.
