It’s natural that “Greatest Hits” compilation albums are among the biggest-sellers; it’s an easy way for a casual fan to get most of an artist’s biggest hits in one package. The biggest-selling album in U.S. history is the Eagles’ Greatest Hits 1971-1975, while in the U.K. it’s Queen’s Greatest Hits. But some artists decided to give their “Best Of” albums proper titles. Here are 15 such recordings, and you’ll have to choose between two artists to determine which one recorded that “Greatest Hits” album.

  1. 14/15 – I never really did care for grunge. It always seemed kinda untidy to me…

  2. 13/15 I haven’t quite lost it yet!

  3. Seriously? Erasure had a greatest hits ALBUM?

  4. 14/15…oh Mötley Crüe, you’re always the wrong answer.

  5. Woo Hoo! Working in a record store through college finally paid off!

  6. @chrisr – Hey, I knew somebody who had Pop! and I have Brian H to thank for my 15/15.

And I’m glad for GH albums w/ “real” titles as my iTunes would compile all my GH albums together, which wouldn’t have been so bad, but it put all the 1st tracks together, then all the 2nd tracks and so on.

I had to manually alter the titles slightly to fool iTunes. A minor annoyance, especially if those artists didn’t really go together.

In fact, in an iTunes world, are we gonna see more titles like The John Lennon Collection or The Best of Elvis Costello, incorporating the artist name?

  7. This one wasn’t very hard. I’m by no means a music buff and I still got 13/15. That or I know more than I think I do…

  8. 13/15 – I have quite a few of these GH albums.

  9. 15/15 And Erasure is better than you think Chrisr.
