Scott, check out what the National Park Service has to say:

The Kennedy Compound consists of about 6 acres of waterfront property along Nantucket Sound. It contains the homes of Joseph P. Kennedy and two of his sons, Robert F. and John F. During the late 1950's and early 1960's, the latter utilized the compound as a base for his Presidential campaign and as a summer White House and Presidential retreat until his assassination in 1963.

Now apologise for your rude and ridiculous comments. You accuse the magazine of being lazy when you yourself could have done no research on the matter, and are as wrong as you can be. Grow up, because you're acting like a child.

JFK to spend most of the summer here

The photo shows the first family on Squaw Island in August 1962. See larger map below.

On this day in 1963, it was widely reported by the Associated Press that "President Kennedy has leased a house on Cape Cod's Squaw Island for the summer."

The first family would stay at a "rambling, gray-shingled house" named Brambletyde and owned by Reading, Pa., textile manufacturer Louis Thun.

The summer before, the Kennedys had stayed at a Squaw Island house owned by singer Morton Downey, father of future television talk show host Morton Downey Jr.

Squaw Island, a geographical misnomer, is a half-mile west of the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport where JFK owned a house next to his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ethel Kennedy, whose summer home was situated next to that of Kennedy elders Joseph and Rose Kennedy.

Ted and Joan Kennedy also owned a house on Squaw Island at that time.

JFK's house in the compound "is not large enough for a combination house and office," the AP reported, though the Secret Service was said to prefer isolated Squaw Island to the compound for security reasons.

President Kennedy was expected to make "almost weekly trips to Cape Cod beginning about July 4," the AP reported, while "Mrs. Kennedy and the two Kennedy children, Caroline and John Jr., likely will spend most of the summer on Cape Cod."

Actually Kennedy did not stay at the Kennedy compound when he was in the White House. He actually stayed at the Squab Island residence of the inventor of the machine that made panty hose. There was one road in and easily patroled by water making it a favorite of the secret service. Maybe just making up the facts is easier than doing an ounce of research. LAZY

The Hotel Colorado is also famous for the huge hot springs pool, and for ghosts. (It was a convalescent hospital during WWII, and some residents literally checked out...)

I grew up a few miles from the Little White House in Warm Springs. If you ever have a chance to visit west central Georgia, it's a really neat place - the house is well-preserved, and the museum is great. I highly recommend it!

B-Doc

How can you justify calling a regular down-to-earth guy and then describe his servants quarters in the same statement. Regular guys don't have servants.

James K. Polk is notable for not taking a single day of vacation. He completed his entire agenda (only president to do so) in four years.

Of course, he also died 103 days after leaving office, so he literally worked himself to death. There's something to be said for taking some time off...
