Last week, we declared that the Laurel Hill Hoboes had the best high school nickname/mascot/logo combination. (A close second: the Chinook Sugar Beeters.) We invited readers to try to top these memorable logos, and try to top them you did. Here are 27 pretty great ones, followed by our two favorite submissions.

1. Huntington Beach Oilers (Huntington Beach, California); 2. Fisher Bunnies (Fisher, Illinois); 3. Avon Old Farms Winged Beavers (Avon, Connecticut)
4. Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms (Blooming Prarie, Minnesota); 5. Poca Dots (Poca, West Virginia); 6. Orofino Maniacs (Orofino, Idaho)

7. Camas Papermakers (Camas, Washington); 8. Hesston Swathers (Hesston, Kansas)

9. Hickman Kewpies (Columbia, Missouri); 10. Coalinga Horned Toads (Coalinga, California); 11. Richland Bombers (Richland, Washington)

12. Astoria Fighting Fishermen (Astoria, Oregon); 13. Mitchell Kernels (Mitchell, South Dakota); 14. Williamsport Millionaires (Williamsport, Pennsylvania)

15. Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts (Kaukauna, Wisconsin); 16. Ridgefield Spudders (Ridgefield, Washington)

17. Johnson Atom Smashers (Savannah, Georgia)

18. New Braunfels Unicorns (New Braunfels, Texas); 19. Live Oak Acorns (Morgan Hill, California); 20. Lockport Porters (Lockport, Illinois)

21.Hoopeston Area Cornjerkers (Hoopeston, Illinois); 22. Frankfort Hot Dogs (Frankfort, Indiana); 23. Watersmeet Nimrods (Watersmeet, Michigan)

24. New Berlin Pretzels (New Berlin, Illinois); 25. Vintage Crushers (Napa, California)

26. Yuba City Honkers (Yuba City, California); 27. Chattanooga Central Purple Pounders (Harrison, Tennessee)
But since we have to play favorites, here are the two logos we’d love to see on a hat or t-shirt or license plate cover:

The Rocky Ford Meloneers (Rocky Ford, Colorado), submitted by johnlaf.

And finally, the Centralia High School Orphans (boys teams) & Annies (girls teams), submitted by Kathleen & Tom.
Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions. Honorable mention goes to the Arkansas School for the Deaf Leopards, which is undeniably brilliant—I just couldn’t find a good picture of the logo.

Ok, technically an unofficial mascot, but the school’s symbol IS a daisy and any Porter’s girl will tell you that the fighting daisy is where its at.
And does it make it funnier that Avon Old Farms is an all boys boarding high school with the mascot of the winged beavers? And that they pronounce it wing-ed?

My high school used to play Avon Old Farms in sports. Trinity-Pawling School in Pawling, NY has since changed their mascot to the Pride (a lion is the mascot) but twelve years ago we were the Blazers (like the jacket that I had to wear every day to class). No visual mascot existed but on paper we were the Blazers. A contest was started by the school newspaper to make an image of the blazer (some submissions were a drawing of said jacket, others were of a horse). None of the ideas really stuck and most students were happier not really aknowleging the mascot.

My high school was the Dearborn High Pioneers (mascot was a guy in a coon skin cap…but our colors were orange and black).

The third high school in the city had to suffer with the name Edsel Ford (Dearborn, MI is the home town of Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company. Pretty much every school is named after some member of the Ford family) but at least they got the reasonable mascot of the Thunder Birds.

My High School mascot was pretty unique and I frequently get teased about it even being out of high school since 2003. We were the Norwalk Truckers. Our logo was a massive semi-truck smiling at people. We also had one where the word norwalk became the “trailer” of the semi with the cab in front of the N.

Okay, if you’re going to mention the Itasca Wampus Cats then you have to mention the Conway (Arkansas) Wampus Cats because they went so far as to describe a wampus cat. It has six legs “four to run at the speed of light and two to fight with all its might”. There is a statue in the high school…our quiz bowl team posed with it and took pictures while we were there at a NAQT tourney.
I CAN’T BELIEVE I DIDN’T THINK OF THIS EARLIER!!!
The Cave City (Arkansas) Cavemen and Cavewomen and the Harrison (Arkansas) Goblins. The funny part of that being when I saw a person wearing a Harrison shirt that read “Go Gobs”

The Alva Goldbugs
The Beaver Dusters (It bore repeating.)
The Beggs Demons (in Beggs, OK.)
The Blackwell Maroons
The Broken Bow Savages (Broken Bow is a city. So is Broken Arrow.)
The Chickasha Fighting Chicks
The Claremore Zebras
The Clinton Red Tornadoes
The Dewey Bulldoggers (Interestingly, this is not a dog. Their logo shows a cowboy jumping from his horse and grabbing the horns of a bull to take it to the ground.)
The Duncan Demons (Possessed donuts?)

The Elk City Elk
The Enid Plainsmen
The Eufaula Ironheads
The Grove Ridgerunners (MEEP MEEP!)
The Haskell Haymakers
The Hooker Bulldogs (Honest to God,Hooker High School is in Hooker, OK. We also have Howe High School in Howe, OK.)

The Little Axe Indians (Little Axe High School is in Norman, OK, the home of OU.)
The MacArthur Highlanders (There can be only one!)
The Marlow Outlaws
The Miami Wardogs (This is a bulldog dressed like Rambo, complete with ammo belt . . . and a sword and shield. And it’s Mi-AM-uh, not Mi-AM-ee.)
The Midwest City High School Bombers (Exactly what you want to hear in a school, especially after Oklahoma City!)
The Mill Creek Bullfrogs
The Muskogee Roughers (Another bulldog, dressed as a oil rig worker, called a “roughneck.”)
The Mustang Broncos (Mustang is the city. Redundant, no?)
The Newcastle Racers
The Paoli Pugs
The Perry Maroons
The Picher Gorillas (It’s funnier with the real pronunciation: PEEK-er.)
The Prue Rockets
The Sallisaw Black Diamonds (with nary a ski slope in sight.)
The Sand Springs Sandites
The Sharon-Mutual Trojans (in Mutual, OK. If you don’t get this one . . .)
The Silo Rebels
The Southmoore Sabercats
In Tulsa:
The Bishop Kelley Comets
The Daniel Webster Warriors (It’s not actually weird, but the name makes me picture someone getting brained with an unabridged dictionary!)
The Holland Hall Fighting Dutchmen
The Will Rogers Ropers (Again, not really weird, but a cool tribute.)
The Valliant Bulldogs (in Valliant, OK.)
The Woodward Boomers
The Yukon Millers (A apron-wearing guy with a sack of flour.)
The Beaver Dusters just beat Hooker 57-8. Oklahoma wins. I live for hearing national broadcasters butcher the names of Oklahoma athletes’ hometowns. My favorite? The Oologah-Talala School System.

Hey there! I went to Astoria High School (Oregon) for Sophomore year, and I was going to suggest our mascot if it wasn’t included, but you had it! That’s awesome. I always thought the fishermen was totally gay! But it’s good for a laugh now. Thanks for this list, it was awesome.

Oh My Gosh! I was just randomly looking at this and thought to myself, man, MY school should be on here, and when I got to the end there it was!!!!
I’m proud to be an ORPHAN!!
Our band is called The Marching Showcase (because \The Marching Orphans would be a bit weird) and our girls teams are the Orphan Annies.
Oh, and the most dedicated of fans at any of our games sit in the ‘orphanage’.
And yes, we have shirts with that little blonde boy on it ;)
… But not the weird girl.

You forgot the Monroe, Wisconsin Cheesemakers. We never had much of a mascot, sometimes it was a giant mouse, sometimes a brawny Swiss guy in suspenders. The name itself was intimidating enough I guess! :)

I was a purple pounder. A friend of mine was a big guy on the football team. He was unfortunately named Ronald McDonald, and so was dubbed Grimace when he wore the purple uniform and got some serious ribbing from the other players.
Poor guy

As a former midget, I feel it’s a pretty good name/picture.

Possibly the best of all time: Key School (Annapolis Maryland) – the Obezags. Name derives from the fact that there are several Gazebos around the campus. Obezag=Gazebo spelled backwards.
