Braces do feel weird, it’s the little sticky up things that look like inteners that hurt the most. you can see one on the top left of the picture. there are 4 of them, and i found the bottom left one dug into my gum, and clicked when i tried to open my mouth and eat. i’ve had braces for a couple of days.
my brothers had them too, and it is worth it. There teeth look amazing.

Id love braces but my dentist wont let me for some reason. :( his always trying to get out of it like ‘all you might need is dental floss’ or something :@ its annoyin urgh! :(

I remember the years of 11-15 1/2 as my metal years…

I wore my headgear EVERYWHERE (school, home, etc) – but the plus for my ‘dedication’ was that the orthodontist gave me a month off in the summer

The HORROR story was that I was wearing it in the public library when a little kid came up to me and asked ‘Lady, how’d you break your face?’

Shame on you, Mental Floss, for perpetuating the myth that George Washington had wooden teeth, even if it was as a joke. I think some of his dentures w/ real human teeth, exist.

The book “An Imperfect God: Geo Washington, His Slaves and the Creation of America” by Henry Wiencek says that Washington’s dentures were made of ivory and that he also had teeth taken from his slaves and transplanted (unsucessfully) into his mouth, and presumably also fitted into dentures.

Apparently the slaves were compensated (somehow) for their teeth, as were the poor, who would sell their teeth to the rich. Another reason why slavery was so heinous, you could have your teeth pulled from your mouth for your master’s use.
