In recent years, the makers of the board game Monopoly have found novel ways to stretch the brand into areas never before considered, particularly with their “themed” editions. But Hasbro has also tinkered with the regular game, as well. New regular Monopoly sets are now packaged with slick white Chance and Community Chest cards with new graphics (and occasionally new text), in an effort to “standardize” the game around the world.
Of course, most of us remember the good old yellow and orange cards on plain stock, with the cartoon images of rich uncle Milton Pennybags (now known as Mr. Monopoly). Those images are seared in the heads of many of us who destined to, one day, be rich enough to own four railroads and a hotel on the Boardwalk. For this quiz, we’ve removed all text and color from 12 Chance and Community Chest cards. You’ll match each of them with the instruction text that should appear on that card. Good luck!
Take the Quiz: Chance & Community Chest
SO CLOSE! I got my advancings backwards and two others mixed up, but I’m impressed with myself to say the least.

Nice job, Steven. It’s a tough quiz; the average score (as of this response) is hovering around 50 percent.

6/12 and I hate Monopoly. I’m fairly certain every youngest child hates Monopoly. My older sisters were such cheaters….

The graphics have generally nothing to do with the captions. Why do all the people gather around (seemingly angry)when the little man inherits $100? And why is he dressed like a hobo for “Advance to Illinois Avenue”?

Not sure about the Illinois Avenue, Harold, but I can answer you about the inheritance. The papers being shoved in his face are pamphlets (apparently from salespersons) with suggestions as to what he can do with the money. I took the text out (so as not to provide a hint), but the pamphlets read “Buy a Yacht,” “World Tour,” and “Rolls Royce.”

it’s not just youngest kids who hated Monopoly… I’m the oldest but have a bro very close to me in age- he was a tycoon and loved the game… and so we always played…
amazed that I only got 50%

10/12 I screwed up the inheritance and bank pays you $50, and I’m very upset, just like I always was when people wouldn’t trade w/ me because they feared me building on the Green properties.

I think the hobo bag on the advanced to Illinois Ave is because he’s movin’ on up ala The Jeffersons.
