Last night was the draft for the Mental_floss fantasy football league. Among the highlights: Drew Brees’ inexplicable fall to the 20th pick and a rather lengthy discussion of Kirk Cameron’s career. But coming out best in the draft was my own Wild Willies, who took Vikings running back Adrian Peterson with the number one overall pick. Given my history with having the number one overall pick, Peterson will injure himself soon and ruin my chances, but that’s the nature of the overall #1. That got me to thinking about the real-life athletes that were drafted number one and how few of them I could think of. Of the 20 athletes here, can you identify which ones were the number one picks?
Take the Quiz: Number 1?
TRICKERY! The quiz is based off of REAL drafts! I was picking them on whether or not they would be number one in a fantasy league. (though, in retrospect, that would be so hard to dig up the data on a lot of these players, let alone there being a fantasy leauge for all these sports back in the day.) I still got a decent score!

Oh, and Brees at the 20th pick is surprising, but not so much if the first round was a RB shoot-out.

It was, Steven. We all grabbed RBs in the first round and the first half of the second round. With 12 teams, starting RBs that weren’t part of a RBBC situation were at a premium.
