Why Craigslist Is Such a Mess. When you are the 800-pound gorilla, you don’t have to always look your best, and that’s part of the charm.

Patrick Blanc’s vertical gardens are a refreshing sight for sore eyes in an urban setting. Kind of like walking through the produce aisle when the mist jets come on.
*
Generations Reference Manual (actually a chart). I declare this to be 90% accurate, at least for Baby Boomers.
*
The Iraqi who saved Norway from oil. Take it from me, this story of a man who risked everything for his family is way more interesting than the title would suggest. (via Metafilter)
*
Kids and Food Coloring. Don’t turn your back on either of them for a minute!
*
Can you name the top 20 countries that use the internet the most? In four minutes? I named 17, but would’ve gotten 19 if I could spell better.
*
The highs and lows of being a young man. This was just as valid 30 years ago when I was that age, right down to The Doors.
*
Eight (and a half) People Whose Jobs Actually Killed Them. I would call it a list of nine, but since there are no mathematicians listed, I guess it’s OK.

  1. 17 out of 20.

I was so hung up on spelling Czechoslovakia. Also, I was rudely interrupted 30 seconds into the challenge for a minute duration which blew my concentration.

  2. A pathetic 13/20
    I should have done better.
Why would you need to spell Czechoslovakia? Luckily no one had to do that anymore except in world history.

  3. That’s my point exactly! I didn’t have to, but the fact that I thought I was spelling it wrong for nothing is why it took up so much valuable time! If I knew I didn’t need it, I wouldn’t have tried swapping letters for almost a minute.

  4. The Generations Reference Manual is accurate for this Generation X-er. But in all fairness, I don’t think the Millenials have had much chance yet.

  5. 19/20. Only missed Turkey.

  6. 20/20, with 15 seconds to spare!

  7. As a Millennial, I’m actually rather offended by the Generations Reference Manual-and I don’t offend easily. But wow, way to portray all of us as useless, brainless nymphos. Some are, absolutely, but not all. Yikes.

  8. @ Kate I agree whole-heartedly. It wasn’t even good natured \kids today!\ reflections like the one linked last week, instead they trivialized a generation most of whom are still too young to vote! I had tears in my eyes reading that our notable \War Story\ is \beating Gears of War\. Like I wasn’t watching, live, as the plane hit the second tower at an impressionable 12. Like I haven’t had my friends and their families silently ripped apart by the War on Terror? And TMZ is my generation’s source of national shame?! How does one pass judgment on a generation that just got here? This chart, or whatever, was mean-spirited and downright offensive to me for a multitude of reasons. If you think I’m being overly sensitive, you’re obviously too freakin’ old.

  9. My mom runs a bakery from home. When I was two and my brother was eight he gave me all of her food colouring bottles and told me I could play with them- on the carpet.

Twelve years later, before we swapped the carpets for hardwood, you could still see my artwork vividly.

I don’t even let my nieces and nephews play with markers anymore, and I’ve hidden all the food colouring!
