The Quick 10: 10 Secret Menu Items

_Flossers: Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to seek out covert items at fast food chains around the country. Be warned, this mission includes very real dangers such as hardening arteries and skyrocketing cholesterol. But we know you won’t let us down. We’ve compiled a list to get you started.

100x1001. In-N-Out Burger’s “secret menu” isn’t so secret these days – in fact, they’ve posted it on their website. But in case you’re not in the habit of surfing fast food sites, here’s the skinny on the rather un-skinny items: ordering something “Animal Style” at In-N-Out means you’re going to get it with lettuce, tomato, a mustard-cooked beef patty, pickles, extra spread (it’s sort of Thousand-Islandy) and grilled onions. You can even get your fries Animal Style. “Protein Style” is a burger wrapped in a lettuce leaf instead of a bun. A Grilled Cheese is two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato and spread on a bun (grilled onions if you so choose). And you can get just about any combo of meat and cheese that you want if you order it like you’re ordering lumber: 3×3 gets you three beef patties and three slices of cheese, 4×4 gets you four of each, and so on. It doesn’t stop there – one gluttonous patron requested a 100×100 at an Las Vegas store a couple of years ago. One item not listed on the website secret menu: the Flying Dutchman, which is two slices of cheese sandwiched between two patties, hold the bun.

2. If you’re at Starbucks and in need of just a little caffeine, don’t worry – there’s a tiny option for you. It’s the Short size, and they don’t advertise it. It’s like a little baby cup of coffee. It also comes in handy when you’re scrounging for change and don’t have enough for a tall… not that that has ever happened to me.

3. It’s a good thing we don’t have Jamba Juice here in Iowa, because I would be all over candy-inspired smoothies. Because it’s considered a health-food chain, Jamba Juice doesn’t officially list these on their in-store menus, but Mighty Foods assures us that the secret flavors exist. The ones they confirmed with the company’s headquarters include Strawberry Shortcake, White Gummy Bear, PB&J, Various flavors of Starbursts, Fruity Pebbles, Push-Up Pops, and Skittles. Other tantalizing flavors that are rumored to exist: Chocolate Gummi Bear, Apple Pie, Sourpatch Kid, Tootsie Roll, Chocolate-covered strawberries, and Now and Later.

4. Chipotle has a whole secret menu that is limited only by your imagination – they have a store policy that says that if they have the item available, they will make it for you. Things that have been tested include nachos, quesadillas, taco salads and single tacos. Some stores are testing out quesadillas as a regular menu item, however, so maybe someday soon you won’t need a super-secret handshake to order one.

5. If you’re at Wendy’s and you’re really hungry – like, three-patties-just-won’t-cut-it hungry, go ahead and order the Grand Slam, which is four patties stacked on a bun. It’s also known as the Meat Cube. Gross.

neapolitan6. Several places, including McDonald’s and In-N-Out, will serve you the Neapolitan milkshake. It’s just what it sounds like – chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes layered in a cup. This gives me a great idea… I wonder if they would make me a mint-chocolate shake when they have the Shamrock Shake in March. Hmmm. Picture from Flickr User Mrjoro.
7. Feeling a little health-conscious at Popeye’s? If you are, you really should have gone somewhere else. But there’s a little hope for you – ordering “naked chicken” will get you breading-free poultry. The word is that this is on the menu at some Popeye’s, but not all of them, although it is an option at all of them.
8. Like Chipotle, Taco Bell will make you just about anything within reason as long as they have the ingredients for it. Since most of the food at Taco Bell is made out of the same basic items, that means you can probably ask for most discontinued items and get them. One “secret,” though, is that they have a not-advertised green chili sauce at most locations, and apparently it’s excellent.

9. Some Subways will still make you the popular pizza sub from the ‘90s. Once the chain decided to make their focus healthy eating, the pizza sub disappeared from the menu in most places (the word is that Canadian and Mexican Subways still offer them on a regular basis). But if you ask, lots of places will still make it for you. Be warned, though – Jared would not approve of the nine slices of pepperoni and copious amounts of cheese slathered in marinara sauce.

10. This one might be my favorite. At Fatburger, you can order a Hypocrite – a veggie burger topped with crispy strips of bacon.

Know any cloak-and-dagger menu items? Or have you had luck actually ordering one of these? Let us in on the secret in the comments.

  1. I have ordered the Short at Starbucks several times with success at their full stores. At a college campus location a request for a Short was denied.

  2. dang! i just went to subway ! should have read this before hand

  3. This probably doesn’t qualify but at Quizno’s they used to have this awesome Roadhouse Salad with beef slices covered with cheese, bacon bits and BBQ sauce all warmed up to melty goodness, served with ranch dressing.

I love this salad! But they took it off their menu in favor of those chopped salads but if I order it, they will generally still make it for me :-D

  4. I’ve had the green chili sauce at taco bell. its awesome! it was about 7 or 8 years ago. ive been looking for it ever since.

  5. When I worked at Burger King in high school, we regularly had one guy who ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. They also have a BLT (small or large) and a ham and cheese sandwich (hot or cold).

  6. 15+ years ago I worked at Jack in the Box. There were like 5 or 6 “secret” items which were on the cash register, but not the menu.

I even got yelled at by a customer for not making a Jack in the Box “quarter pounder” correctly (basically a naked jumbo jack).

I also worked at El Chico for a while and there were several items you could order from old menus or menus used at different restaurants.

  7. I wish I could just order a McRib like it’s a secret menu item…sigh.

  8. your outbound links aren’t working for me. Firefox 3.5.2

  9. Order a “spicy green __________” whatever at Taco Bell and get the chili sauce. I loves me the spicy green bean burrito with extra sour cream.

  10. This is extremely regional, but at Brixx Pizza (locations in Tennessee and the Carolinas) you can get a half-and-half pizza, combining any two pizzas on the menu.

  11. Taco Bell discontinued the Cheesy Gordita Crunch years ago but it was the only thing at Taco Bell I’ve ever really liked. I keep ordering it and they keep making it. Its worked at every taco bell I’ve tried it at, probably 6 or 7 different locations.

Also, at in-and-out, in addition to what’s on their website, you can order your fries well done (which is great) or animal style (which is heart-attack inducing).

  12. I worked at Dunkin Donuts for a few years in high school and we whipped up some yummy custom Coolattas. These are tried and true recipes concocted by me and my co-workers. Unless noted, they can be made at any Dunkin Donuts. However, if you go up to the counter and order an “Orange Creamsicle Coolatta” you’ll get stared at like you have a third arm growing out of your head. Instead, you’ll have to memorize or copy down the recipes. Words like “Neutral base” may not make much sense to you, but these are written so that any Dunkin Donuts employee worth his hat knows what’s what.

Also, do me a favor and don’t attempt to order these during a busy morning rush with a line behind you. Wait for a hot afternoon when you’re feeling adventurous and your local Dunkin Donuts staff will be able to accomadate these crazy specifics ;)

    *Orange Creamsicle
2/3 Vanilla Bean Coolatta concentrate, 1/3 Orange Coolatta concentrate, Neutral base

    *Arnold Palmer
1/3 Lemonade Coolatta concentrate, 2/3 Ice Tea, Neutral base

    *Chocolate-Covered Strawberry
3/4 Vanilla Bean Coolatta concentrate, 1/4 Stawberry Coolatta concentrate, 1-3 pumps of Mocha Swirl (depending on size i.e. small, medium, large), Neutral base

    *Toasty Caramel Creme
Toasted Almond Flavor Shot, Caramel Swirl (3 shots for a small, 4 shots for a medium, 5 shots for a large), Neutral base

    *Blueberry Cobbler
X-Large Blueberry Flavor Shot, 2/3 Vanilla Bean Coolatta concentrate, 1/3 Wildberry Smoothie base, 1-3 pumps of Caramel Swirl (depending on size i.e. small, medium, large), Neutral base

  13. ALWAYS! I mean ALWAYS ask for te green sauce when you go to Taco Bell and order the quesidilla..
They don’t tell anyone about it but it makes it sooo much better.
O and ask for double grilled quesidilla…

  14. You can no longer get massive burger stacks at In-N-Out. In-N-Out won’t do more than like 6×6 anymore. They won’t do anything higher than that, which sucks. You’d think if people are willing to pay, they should be willing to do it.

  15. My son would get 12X12s when he was hit a growth spurt. In-n-out then limited the size to an 8X8 for a while. Now they will only go up to a 4X4. You can also order your fries Lite which is slightly under cooked. You can also order whole grilled onions which is a slice of an onion grilled instead of the chopped onions you get with regular grilled onions.

  16. It’s no secret, but Sonic restaurants will pretty much mix any liquid product they have with anything else.

    That is all.

  17. Taco Bell’s Enchirito. A portmanteau of the words enchilada and burrito. Best eaten with a spork.

  18. I’m in New Mexico and we have the green sauce at Taco Bell AND pizza subs at Subway are on the menu. Plus you can get Green chili on your Subway sandwiches and it’s amazing.

Then again you can get green chili on everything here. (not like the sauce at taco bell, REAL green chili)

  19. I must say that the White Gummi smoothie is my Jamba Juice item of choice. I must try a starburst flavored one though, that sounds tasty.

  20. Veggie Whopper at Burger King. Don’t know if it still exists, but it was there when I was a young lad behind the counter. “Where’s the beef?” I don’t know, ask Wendy. I think she knows.

  21. Once again, I’m not sure if this is really a “secret” menu item, but at most Dairy Queens I’ve been to, you can order just about any flavour of Blizzard not on the menu and they will make it, so long as they have the stuff for it. I usually spring for the plain cherry or plain strawberry, but you can combine them too since the flavours don’t impact the cost at all.

  22. Cheese grits at McDonalds. Yes, I live in the deep south!

  23. Incharido at Taco Bell!

  24. A Double-Double, Animal Style, is amazing. You have to get at least a double-double, as well. The singles just aren’t good. I had a co-worker who was working his way up, one extra layer at a time. I think he got to a six by six…

  25. I’m in West Virginia and at pretty much all the Subways I’ve ever been in have had the Pizza Sub on the menu, usually listed under local favorites.

  26. If you order a Veggie Whopper at BK, don’t expect to get one of their Boca Burger patties…

A Veggie Whopper is all the Whopper toppings on a Whopper-sized bun, with no beef pattie.

A Veggie BURGER is the Boca Burger. When I worked at Burger King, the very first day this was all explained to me with “the customers know the difference, they are ordering what they want” story, as I thought that was crazy. Little did I know…the summer I was there, the number of people who ordered the Veggie Whopper greatly outnumbered the Veggie Burger, both were more common than I expected in a little farming community in Ohio, and not a single customer returned a burger because I had given them the wrong one.

  27. In Hawaii you can get things at McDonald’s (and some other restaraunts chains) that you can’t get on the mainland like white rice, poi, breakfast plates with Portugese Sausage and teriyaki burgers. Mmmmmmmmm….

  28. I worked at Jamba Juice in college and I can confirm that the Tootsie Roll smoothie does exist, and it is really weird. It’s basically just Chocolate Moo’d with lite Choc. base substitute carrot juice. It’s weird, but it does taste like Tootsie Roll. All of those “secret menu” items taste good for only a few sips, a whole original size or even a sixteen has enough sugar to induce a coma, especially the white gummi.

  29. I heard that a triple shot of espresso is called a JFK at Starbucks, it might of just been a joke though.

  30. I don’t know any secret items to add, but I would like it to be known that I have a major hankering for a burger now.

  31. When I used to work at Dairy Queen in the late 90′s we made lots of different items by request – oftentimes our attitude was until the manager or owner refused it we will do it :) So we’ve made chocolate and vanilla cokes, or added fruit sauce to blizzards, made them with chocolate soft serve. What really sucked about the job tho was when people asked to add mayo to burgers that normally didn’t come with it. Owner said no! When he wasn’t there I would do it but there were many drive offs with customers refusing to order because he wouldn’t do it. I should have tracked how much he wasn’t selling because of that policy…

  32. I don’t know if all Taco Bells these days have taken the chili cheese burrito off their menu, but all the ones I’ve visited will make one for me.

  33. Darn it, I’m now getting an urge for In-N-Out. One of the perks of living in Southern California (among many)!

  34. Here in Wisconsin if you go to a Pizza Hut and order a Badger you will get a pizza with 3 types of cheeses mozzarella, cheddar, and I think ramona, Italian Sausage, and mushrooms. We once went across the border and ordered one they had no clue what we were talking about.

  35. When my husband and I were in Europe ten years ago, we ate a lot at McDonalds (my husband is not an adventurous eater), and I was pretty shocked by the regional stuff I saw on the board. The one that stands out in my memory is \Tiramacsu,\ which looked…ah…interesting, but I blew it off in favor of the local bakeries. The chains ought to have an international day now and then, let folks sample stuff they sell in other parts of the world.

  36. Cutis… the half and half pizza can be ordered anywhere, jut let any pizza place know you want like half peperoni and half anchovies and they will make it…. to go with that if you ask at most papa johns you can still get anchovies

  37. Living up in Canada I had no idea the pizza sub was so special! I feel privileged.

  38. At Perkins, a restaurant chain in the Midwest (like Denny’s) you can order a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It’s not on the menu, but the waitress has a button to punch on the computer to tell the cooks to make it.

  39. Stacy, to answer your question about the Shamrock Shakes, no you cannot get one in any month other than March. Our Shake machines usually hold 4 flavors: Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, and the Monthly Special flavor. We only get the supplies to make the Shamrock Shake in March :(

  40. Favorite DQ Blizzard: a Chocolate Chip Blizzard – they use the “magic shell” they use for the dipped cones.

Around here Quiznos has taken the Double Bacon BLT off the menus but you can still order it.

Still can find pizza subs on the menus at Subway… they’ll also fix the Spicy Italian with just pepperoni (not a fan of salami).

  41. Re: the stuff available at Hawaiian McDonalds, maybe you could do something on the different things available in different countries from international fast food chains. I remember seeing Oprah going on about Hawaiian Pizza Hut pizzas (ham and pineapple) in Australia (also avail here in NZ) as being something weird. Totally standard (and disgusting, IMHO). McDonalds here has a ‘kiwi burger’, with egg and beetroot (also gross), I’ve had a ‘kofte burger’ at McDonalds in Turkey, and I reeeeally miss KFC ‘hot pockets’ which maybe you have in the US anyway, but we don’t have them at KFC here (I used to get them in Prague). Sooo good!
    I sound like a total fast-food fiend now… I really don’t go that much!

  42. This may not be a true secret item, but more like secret math. At most coffee shops, iced lattes are ridiculously expensive. Just order two or three shots of espresso over ice in a large cup. Fill the rest with milk at the mixing station and save a buck or so.

  43. Man, an In-and-Out burger sounds really good right now. too bad we don’t have any in Minnesota.

  44. McDonald’s always seems to have an item based on the region they’re located at. In Maine, they had lobster sandwiches. In NY, among other places, they get the steak sub. In Alabama, they have southern style chicken and rib sandwiches, but I think that’s available most places now.

  45. Secret menu items: I don’t eat meat, and almost every sandwich restaurant will make me a grilled cheese if I request one. Other countries’ menus: when I lived in Turkey, Burger King sold a “Bean Burger” that was to die for. I still miss it.

  46. Yes, McD’s will make you a mint chocolate milkshake in shamrock season.

    Gosh, now I’m super hungry.

  47. I’m a manager at a Wendy’s in Ohio. We don’t have the Grand Slam burger. I’m told we used to, but not anymore.

  48. We have a local hot dog joint in Grand Rapids, MI that has all sorts of secret menu items, but my favorite is the “slutdog”, two hot dogs to one bun.

  49. When I go to Starbucks I order a Strawberry Blended Lemonade. It’s a chilled drink made with the strawberry stuff used for a different drink, blended with lemonade and ice. It’s not on the menu and it’s the BEST. I live in Canada, so I don’t know if they know about it in the USA but I’ve gone to several locations and they’ve all made it for me, no questions asked.

London Fog is also quite good. It’s a hot drink; a latte made with Earl Grey tea and vanilla syrup or something. I can’t remember exactly. Unless they’ve changed the menu to add it, I’m pretty sure that’s not on it either.

  50. As a former Starbucks barista, I have to say the short size is the way to go. (Any “real”- non-licensed store- offers that size.) Also, another popular beverage that’s no longer on the menu is the blended strawberry lemonade. Just what it sounds like; absolutely delicious, less fatty blended drink.

  51. It’s back on the menu now, but Subway’s “spicy Italian” sub (my favorite) went missing for a few years. Every Subway I went to still made the sub – and knew what it was – but it was absent from the “big list.”

And a side note, since a couple people mentioned it in the comments: For anyone who loves Chick-Fil-A but (like me) doesn’t have one nearby, the McDonald’s Southern chicken sandwich is a reasonable facsimile. It’s even made the same way; with pickle only on a non-seeded bun.

Okay, one last note: When I worked at Hardee’s as a teenager, I made one of the best sandwiches I’d ever eaten. I never offered it to anyone else, and of course they never added it to the menu, but the recipe was thus: one of their fried chicken breasts topped with the innards of a Hot Ham ‘n’ Cheese sandwich, smothered with the mushroom sauce from the Mushroom ‘n’ Swiss burger, and served on a large seeded bun. It was AWESOME.

  52. It varies by location, but here in NC about half of the McDonald’s offer a 50 piece McNuggets for $9.99. Some of them even have a giant bucket for them. I’ve gotten it several places but sometimes I have to ask twice.

  53. Immediately upon reading this, I asked my boyfriend, who is a manger for Wendy`s about the `meat cube`. He said he`s never heard of it, but different regions do have different things on their menus. All in all, it`s a possibility, albeit a disgusting one.

  54. I work at a Starbucks in a major airport so every once in a while I fall prey to the regional drink orders that my store doesn’t serve any more. I’d like to point out that not all Starbucks serve the short and ( from what I can tell) they’re not obligated to do so. A rule of thumb is that if you’re in a major transportation hub, chances are that they don’t serve everything.

I can’t really think of any secret ones we have. Usually the rule is that if it’s within reason, reach, and chargeable on the register, we could do it.

As for the iced latte thing…. Come on, please stop doing that. You’re getting people in trouble with that.

  55. Speaking of Mcdonald’s that have strange food. I went to Prague a couple of years ago and they had mexican food items like taco’s and burrito’s also they had Jalapeno burgers

  56. Used to work at DQ as a manager… here are some product names that some DQ’s still recognize:

Jack and Jill Sundae – Marshmallow and Hot Fudge Sunday

Lavender Blue Sundae – Marshmallow and Blueberry Sundae

Also, in Canada the Freeze is not on the menu but is still available — Misty and Ice Cream blended together. Or ask for a Freeze made with pop instead of Misty – mmmm…. try orange or root beer.

Ice Cream Cakes — most DQ’s will do custom cakes– i.e. all Chocolate, extra fudge, extra cake crunch, or with fruit if their are allergies… depends on the store, but very cool.

  57. I’m a big coffee drinker, but it generally isn’t strong enough on its own to keep me focused/awake. I generally order an iced Red Eye, Black Eye or TKO at Starbucks, which are coffees with one, two and three shots of espresso, respectively. I’ve never been asked what it was, but it’s not on the menu, at least in any of the various Starbucks I’ve frequented.

  58. Chick-Fil-A will knock off 40 cents from the BLT Chicken sandwhich if you ask for no tomoatoe.

Also if you time it juuuuuust right, you can get there right at the end of the breakfast time and beginning of lunch and they’ll throw in a “special” for free, usually the mini biscuts.

  59. McDonald’s offers a “MiniMac”, basically a double cheeseburger that is a BigMac. I order a “double cheeseburger, made like a big Mac” and the order screen indicates a MiniMac. It’s like $0.40 extra.

  60. I have successfully ordered the Pizza Sub (double meat and double cheese, of course) almost every time I go into a SubWay. Also, I regularly order Chilitos at Taco Bell. Mmmmmmmm…feel the (heart)burn.

  61. I’ve successfully gotten Chik-fil-a to mix me custom shakes multiple times. My favorite is the chocolate oreo shake. Although some restaurants charge extra (like $0.25).

  62. CostCo which only lists 3 pizzas on its menu (Cheese, Combo, and Pepperoni) will also sell you a split half-n-half combining any 2 of those three, they just sell the extra halves by-the-slice. I’m pretty sure they will sell you a whole pizza with just the Veggies from the Combo.

Since all pizzas are the same price there, the above additional choices are also the same price. (here in MD it’s $9.95 for a VERY large (12 slice) pizza.

  63. And while I’m here, I thought I’d plug my personal fantasy Secret Menu mash-up. We, like many places, have a combo KFC/A&W. They make various “bowls” usually based on mashed potatoes and/or corn. I’d like to have them make a bowl starting with fries, putting the fried cheese curds on next, and then smothering the works with KFC gravy to make extra-artery-clogging version of Canadian poutine.

I haven’t tried it because it just seems a little too fried to eat a whole one and I haven’t found anyone willing to share one with me.

  64. When I worked at McDonald’s, I would experiment with my free lunches just about every day. My favorite sandwich was the crispy chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and NO mayo. Then I would proceed with opening a barbeque sauce cup for the nuggets and apply it to the top bun. On occasion, I would take honey mustard and apply it too.

I would do the same for breakfast too. If you were a fan of the Egg McBenedict when it was available, you may be pleasantly surprised to hear that all the ingredients still exist. However, you might be slightly upset that you paid the extra money to only receive an Egg McMuffin with bagel sauce. I still order them that way, and the 2 for $2.22 deals are even sweeter because of that.

  65. at Arby’s there is a secret condiment, “Red Ranch”. I believe this is on a sandwich on the Arby’s roster. After searching for my white whale at numerous Arby’s and being told that red ranch doesn’t exist I finally found it, and oh what a joyous day that was!

  66. At McDonald’s, you can order the All American Cheeseburger Meal. It’s a full meal at 2 cheeseburgers, fries, and a drink. If you get it biggie sized, it’s enough for 2 people, and it’s around $5.

  67. I can confirm 100% that every SubWay I’ve been to in Atlantic Canada offeres the Pizza Sub. Had one a few weeks ago.

    -TJ

  68. Burger King: you can order “Frings” that is half french fries and half onion rings. they have given it to me at all of the Burger Kings I have been to.

Quiznos: Cabo Chicken sandwitch. was only on the menu for a while but they will still make it for you. chicken, cheddar cheese, chipotle mayo, guacamole, bacon bits, lettuce and tomato. mmm…

  69. A lot of McDonalds don’t have the All-American Hamburger/Cheeseburger meal on the menu but they will still make it for you. Basically a kid’s meal without the toy (and cheaper).

  70. The secret menu item at Dairy Queen is a “Frozen Hot Chocolate”. They mix that slushie stuff with chocolate fudge and some soft serve. Pretty tasty.

  71. I’ve gotten short cappuccinos at Starbucks before because that’s the only time that they actually make them correctly!

  72. I used to work at Taco Bell and I can tell you that most of them do not carry the special “green” sauce. We constantly had people asking us for it, and they would always get mad when I told them we didn’t have it.

Also, the cheesy gordita crunch is no longer on the menu at most Taco Bells but can still be ordered.

I wish they would bring back the BLT soft taco…greatest thing ever. But they stoppped making it when I was 12 or so. Anyway, yes Taco Bell will make you just about anything that they can…just be prepared to pay for it. They will try to charge you for every little ingredient you put in.

  73. McDonald’s will make you a grilled cheese sandwich which is actually the best thing they have. They take two hamburger buns, flip them around with cheese in the middle and run it through some rolling toaster machine. It’s good.

  74. @David: “I heard that a triple shot of espresso is called a JFK at Starbucks, it might of just been a joke though.”

Was there a second Barista on the grassy knoll?

  75. At some Burger Kings you can order a ham sandwich. It’s the same poboy bread the breaded chicken sandwich comes on lettuce, tomatoe, cheese and ham. I worked there for a few years and only had a few orders. i haven’t tried it in several years though.

  76. Ah, the Hypocrite – great name! At Spike’s Hot Dogs (Boston/Providence locations) They do a veggie dog topped with bacon, but it’s called the Contradiction Dog.

  77. I feel compelled to point out a fallacy. The “White Gummy” from Jamba Juice actually has no candy in it whatsoever. It just tastes like gummy bears.

  78. Village Inn does not advertise the Country Sausage Skillet anymore but will serve it if ordered by a customer.

  79. When I worked at Burger King, when someone would order the Veggie burger, they’d get the bun, all the fixins, but no meat (also no meat-substitute). Had to deal with many an angry vegan!

  80. I used to work at a Wendy’s, and we used to make Floats for ourselves – a bit of chocolate Frostie with Root Beer. Mmmmm…don’t know that anyone has every ordered that, but it might be worth a try!

  81. I’ve worked at two different Wendy’s and I’ve never heard of a “grand slam” or a “meat cube”.

However, there’s always an option to add another patty on any burger (which maybe should be on the list since they usually don’t advertise it).

  82. Can’t believe in-and-out burger and potbellies weren’t mentioned.

in-an-out “animal style” has been a go to burger for years.

potbellies rocks the “wrecking ball”, “the godfather” and many more fun styles.

wrecking ball = a wreck with two meatballs. ask for it bloody to add marinara.

  83. at my local mcdonald’s there was a wonderful older woman named Miss Phyllis who worked the morning shift and always hooked me up with a sauage egg and cheese bagel with bacon, even after they stopped offering “add bacon for 39 cents” deal they had…on top of that she was excellent at customer service and competent at her job

unfortunately, she passed away from a nasty pnemonia and since she had a shitty job at mickey d’s and almost no insurance…they put a collection jar on the counter in her memory to help her family with funeral costs. i put a fiver in, but i suspect that bought her co-workers some nickelbags.

    long live miss phyllis!

  84. At McDonald’s, if they still have it. You can get a Grilled Cheese Sandwich. They take a regular cheeseburger bun, flip it inside out, put 2 pieces of cheese between it, then put it in the Big Mac toster’s middle plates ( so both sides get heated)

  85. I don’t have any secret recipes, but one thing I do miss terribly is the grilled chicken flatbread sandwich they had at McDonalds 7 or 8 years ago. I wish they could make it for me around here. It was fabulous!

  86. For Blizzards my fav would be the Chocolate Covered Cherries
    Candy shell + cherries

  87. Is the Subway Pizza Sub everyone is talking about the same as the Chicken Pizziola? I get that down here in Florida all the time. It’s Pepperoni on the bread, then a layer of cheese, and then the grilled chicken bits in the middle. I usually don’t get anything else on that and it’s quite a meal.

  88. Wendy’s: Not a real secret, but not on the big menu: a junior frosty. only 50 cents and just enough ice cream to hit the spot or feed a kid

  89. Hells yes, cheesy gordita crunch at taco bell all the way.

  90. Not long after I started going to Taco Bell I was in the drive-thru ordering and they asked if I wanted any hot sauce. I said yeah – the hottest one they had. She was quiet for a few seconds and then asked “you want the hottest thing we’ve got?” I wasn’t sure what I was getting into but I said “yes” and she said “okay…drive forward.”

When got to the window she had this packet of green stuff and asked how many I wanted. I got six. Went home, put a bit on my burrito. Nothing. Put more on. Still nothing. Emptied the packed. Totally useless. Never bothered with it again. But man, I love their Fire Sauce.

  91. At waffle house you can request a quadruple order of hash browns even though the menu only lists up to a triple order. This is not for the faint of heart though, it is a lot of potatoes.

  92. We call the Grand Slam “the meat and cheese infested quad-pod” around here. It gets some laughs when we try to order it as such.

  93. I read through and didn’t see this…

If you have never tried it, ask McDonalds to make you a Pie McFlurry. They will toss whatever pie they have around (Apple and/or the seasonals, Pumpkin ROCKS) into your McFlurry. I used to charge for a McFlurry, I have had people charge me since for the pie AND the McFlurry (Which sucks.

    Good luck.

  94. At Taco Mayo get a Queso Rice Chicken Burrito. They used to be on the menu and are still on the keyboard. I ordered them in college when they were part of a combo meal, but then they quit selling them altogether for a few years. Oh what a great day it was when they returned.

  95. You do know a shamrock shake is not mint? It’s vanilla w/ green food coloring…

  96. Carl’s Jr seems to have a pretty big ‘secret’ menu or else a policy of making discontinued items if they can. I was somewhat bummed out when the southwest spicy chicken sandwich disappeared off the menu several years ago, so I asked about it and they made me one. I’ve done this several times since then. Recently, however, they wouldn’t make me a sourdough bacon ranch burger, though they were willing to put another sandwich on sourdough instead of a bun for me.

  97. At some Arby’s, you could order the fries \wet\ and they put the cheese sauce on it. But I think that might be a menu option now.. I haven’t been there in a while.

  98. 80′s flashback: I used to love ordering an Animal at In-N-Out when I was in college. Too bad I live on the wrong coast now — I could really go for one of those.

  99. When my wife and I go to Dairy Queen she orders a chocolate chip blizzard. They don’t mix in regular chocolate chips though. They mix the blizzard using the chocolate sauce they use to make the hard shelled cones. It’s pretty good. I’d never heard of it until she ordered once while we were dating.

  100. At Taco Bell, we always order the Nachos Belle Grande with Jalapeno sauce. It is a creamy red sauce and they charge about 35 cents for it here in Texas. They had some special Nacho about two years ago, the name escapes me. When they took it off the menu, they told us that this sauce was the only difference.

This doesn’t appear to be the “green sauce” mentioned in the other comments, but it does have a good flavor.

  101. @Lucas: It’s not secret math. It’s called a ghetto latte, and we all hate you for making them. You look like a cheapskate, and now at a lot of starbucks, we keep the milk behind the counter because of people like you.

  102. I used to get a italian chicken sub at Subway. It was basically a ghetto chicken parm sub. Get a chicken breast sub, have them slop some of the meatball sauce and some cheese and grill. Yummy.

  103. There is a restaurant chain in Spokane, WA that will make beer batter deep fried Oreos. This hasn’t been on the menu in over 15 years, but is still available on request. I can’t eat more than a couple…

  104. My favorite Taco Bell semi-secret item has got to be a “chicken meximelt plus sour cream.” That’s with chicken rather than the usual beef (you won’t see that on the menu but they’ll do that with almost anything), and since it’s all melty with cheese, the sour cream gets warm and kind of blends with that melted cheese, and it’s just amazing. If you’re a Tabasco fan like me, put a little Tabasco on it and you’re all set.

At McDonalds I really wish I could order the fajitas as a secret item! I guess those will never come back. At least not where I live. :(

I can’t freaking wait to try that pie McFlurry. OMG. :-D They should market that.

  105. At Long John Silver’s, order a “side of crumbs.” It’s a box of the fried batter crunchies that hang off their fish and chicken planks, and best of all, it’s free of charge. Can’t say it’s healthy by any stretch of the imagination, but it tastes delicious!

  106. I believe you can get poutine anywhere that serves fries in Canada. A lot of places didn’t start offering it on the menu until a few years ago and you’ll probably get cheddar cheese.

  107. It’s not a fast food joint, but Hampton Mansion in Baltimore, Maryland would give you a free small glass of sherry with your lunch if you asked for it. It’s not on the menu. This was over ten years ago and I don’t know if they do it anymore. There’s nothing as romantic as getting a free glass of sherry with a nice and inexpensive meal served at the outdoor restaurant at a mansion.

  108. It’s been so long since I’d seen a Shamrock Shake at McDonalds that I didn’t think they made them any more.

  109. A favorite from Taco Bell for ages has been a bean burrito, green sauce and extra onions. Great taste and – you’re right – the green sauce is not on the menu. After a burrito like this you can’t go back to the menu bean burrito – it tastes soooo bland.

  110. @RYAN i love cheesy gordita crunch its the only item i get at TACO BELL :-D and everywhere ive asked they’ve made it even though its not on the menu

  111. Back when I worked as a barista, I made up the “Hightower” for one of my buddies. Chocolate, caramel, and white chocolate syrup, with hazelnut, vanilla, and almond syrup and espresso base.

If I could afford one of those every morning I’d be a happy man.

  112. If this appears on the menu, I’ve never noticed it… at White Castle, you can get seasoned fries. Kind of like a Lawry’s seasoning. Good stuff.

  113. Beware you get the minimum wage, untrained, recently-replaced-a-laid-off-experienced-employee noob, who has never heard of any of these, and needs to go ask three different people or else have you describe it.

  114. I’m glad that at least some BKs train their workers about the difference between “veggie whopper” and “veggie burger” (which I believe is technically called BK Veggie). I’ve ordered the first and been served the latter and been less than pleased. And BTW last I went, the BK veggie was nothing like a Boca.

  115. Two years ago Ruby Tuesday began offering a Chicken Oscar. Interestingly enough, the computer systems actually have Steak Oscar in them as well. Also, any burger/ sandwich could be ordered with the topping of any other on the menu. Like the veggie burger? Want it with the Smokehouse setup? No problem, there’s a button in the computer for that.

  116. I always order a foot long Pizza Sub whenever I go to a subway. I’ve never had a problem with availability. I’ve been doing this for about 10+ years.

  117. I have yet to see a subway selling something off the menu. Anything evenly remotely related to pizzas would seem very weird in a subway.

  118. I’m from Canada and I can assure you that we still have pizza subs! They are listed under our ‘local favourites’, along with the crab sub… And I can tell you that they are probably one of the most popular subs!

Also, McDonald’s in India only serve chicken, and McDonald’s in Costa Rica have full McCafe’s (with cakes and whatnot) as well as crazy ice cream delights, tamales, rice and beans and a whole bunch of other local fare

  119. I have been ordering the pizza sub since I can remember! Most subways deliver, but every now and then the employee won’t know what it contains and you have to help them out. It is delicious!

  120. at sonic, they used to have a drink called an “orgasm”–which was basically sprite, cherry flavoring, and cream. i’ve asked for it recently and been denied, though. shame because it really was an orgasm for my mouth!

  121. They won’t tell you this anywere, but at Outback Steakhouse you can order the Prime Rib and ask them to season and sear both sides for you. It’s fantastic.

  122. @Brodie – When I worked at BK (which was, well, a very long time ago) there was a button on the register that said “No Meat”. It was a discount for a Whopper without the meat. I don’t remember how much the discount was for though. In my three years of working there I only ever used it once.

  123. I’ve had Taco Bell make everything “Lava” before. Since they dropped the Spicy Chicken Burrito at my local TB, I now get a Chicken Burrito with Lava sauce.

Will definitely have to get the green chili next time.

  124. I worked at Burger King in high school. That’s where I discovered the BK Tacos. The most amazing deep fried tacos ever. I get them everytime I go to BK.

  125. My boyfriend works at Panera, and they will also customize anything for you in pretty much any way you ask. You can combine any ingredients together. The only catch is that for cooked items like paninis, you have to allow a few extra minutes of prep time for custom orders.

One interesting request: a baked potato with cream of mushroom soup poured on top.

  126. Potbelly Sandwich Works will also serve you their version of the hamburger if you order one. They chop up the meatballs to create the hamburger patty.

  127. At most Sonic’s you can get the frito pie which is not on the menu and it is also possible to get anything added to any drink including slushies. I have seen people order pickle slushes.

  128. At most Sonics, you can order an old drink mix called a Pink Flamingo. It’s on the computers, as far as I know. I’m not entirely sure what goes into it, but a friend of mine used to get them all the time. I believe, but I’m not positive, that it’s a Sprite (or possibly soda water) with cherry and watermelon flavors. You can also get it as a slush. (You can get Ocean Waters as a drink, as well, and not just in a slush format.)

And this isn’t really a secret, but a Fritos chili pie with jalapenos and tomato is delicious.

  129. Cy Guy: Costco will make any pizza combo (whole pizzas only, as far as I know) as long as it uses the pizza ingredients they have on hand. (i.e. the ingredients in their combo)… 9.95 for any pizza combo.

I regularly get sausage and mushroom pizzas from there.

  130. Jack in the Box has long had an entire secret menu… nobody seems to understand.

Any single part ingredient can be added to any sandwich. For example:

You can order 4 patties + 4 cheeze slices, extra pickles, onions and bacon in a Jumbo Jack.

You just have to pay for the ‘added’ items as extras. The limits were never specified to me, but, I used to order and the sandwiches seemed fresher…

  131. A good friend of mine used to work at Tim Horton’s (coffee/donut shop chain popular in Canada) and she made chocolate dipped honey cruellers.. it was one of the most popular donuts when she worked there, but was never on the menu.

  132. When I was younger, I worked at Dairy Queen. We would make anything you asked for, and try to come up with good combinations. One of the best was a beer shake, made after hours.

  133. One of my favorite burgers ever is the Rodeo Burger from BK, haven’t seen that mentioned yet and though they served it years ago, it’s rarely offered on the menu, but they always make it. It’s a regular cheeseburger with onion rings and bbq sauce on it.

Taco Johns has many secret menu items, one of my favs is a ranch burrito, made with black olives and ranch instead of sour cream.

Another is Dairy Queen, Very Berry smoothie has slushie mix, vanilla soft serve and berry mix.

  134. “at sonic, they used to have a drink called an “orgasm”–which was basically sprite, cherry flavoring, and cream.”

I wonder how you actually go about ordering one of those… “Hi, I’d like to have an orgasm”.

Or one of the other one further up in the comments: “Hi, welcome to Starbucks, what would you like?” – “Ehm, a black eye, please”.

  135. If you order a short, they whisper your order when it’s ready rather than calling it out at the top of their lungs. I asked a friend who works at Starbucks about this and he said they’re specifically instructed to do that.

  136. I live in Canada and i remember having a pizza sub at subway not to long ago…
I’m pretty sure they still have it on the menu.

This isn’t a secret menu item, but in Canadian Subways they call balsamic dressing “sub sauce.”

  137. My friends used to work at Taco Bell and used to make an everything quesadilla. It was chicken, steak, rice, the regular cheese blend, nacho cheese, and extra jalapeno sauce. When made correctly it comes out to a 2lb quesadilla.

  138. in Japan, Short is one of the listed sizes on the Starbucks menu and Venti isn’t there

  139. Taco Johns has very, very hot green sauce. You have to ask for it and they put in a little plastic cup with a top. Be careful, it is hot!

  140. I used to work at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and they didn’t have my all time favorite shake, Chocolate Banana. However if you got a Banana Caramel which was just Banana Vanilla and Caramel, then subbed Chocolate for Vanilla and held the Caramel. Can also try to order a Blended Mocha with Banana instead of ‘Extract’ however a stingy Manager probably wouldn’t let you get away with that.

  141. Red Robin will still serve many of their discontinued menu items.

  142. Taco Bell: Vege Mexi Pizza YUM!
just beans instead of meat on you Mexi-Pizza.Jared might even approve, not!

  143. Can’t believe no was has mentioned the other starbucks secret options. a “Shot in the Dark” = black coffee with a shot of espresso dropped in it. or my personal favorite the “zebra mocha” = a mix of regular and white mochas.

  144. A Pie McFlurry here in Pennsylvania goes by Pie a la Mode, and it’s a bit different.

They put an apple pie in a cup, put vanilla soft serve on top and drizzle LOTS of caramel on top. So far, I can only find one place that does this…
    Simple, but good.

  145. I have had the Shamrock and Chocolate shakes mixed at McDonald’s and it’s AMAZING! Just have to ask!

  146. Look OUT, All you starbucks fans, There is a drink called the undertow aka breve blaster aka john wayne

some times you have to explain how to make it, its not on themenu and only the true old school barrista knows how…layer 2 shots of espresso ontop of an ounce or so of half and half mixed with your favorite flavor, vanilla is the usual. its so good, hot and nasty on top and sweet and cold on the bottom. ItS THE SHIZZLE

  147. When McDonalds offers the orange shakes in the summer in some regional restaurants, they will also mix it with vanilla shake for a dreamcicle, which is incredible. Also, for Chicago area readers, POTBELLY, the awesome baked sandwich shop, you can ask for the following:
THE WRECKING BALL: combination of two regular menu sandwiches, the meatball and the wreck.
THE FIREBALL: Meatball sandwich with chili on it. Make sure they still put the marinara on.
CHEESEBURGER: Meatball sandwich, no marinara, mustard, ketchup, cheese, pickles.

  148. Burger King used to have an item called the ‘Big King’, basically their version of a ‘Big Mac’. Its discontinued in the U.S., but you can approximate it by modifying the ‘BK Stacker’. Order a ‘BK Stacker’ and ask for no bacon, add lettuce, onions and pickles. Done. If you’re really hungry make it a triple or even a quadruple.

In McDonalds Japan, they have an item called a ‘Mega Mac’, basically a ‘Big Mac’ with four patties. Most McDonalds in the US will add two additional patties for a small fee.

  149. Congratulations for making the front page of Yahoo! You are front and center – very exciting :)

Ordering at Fatburger makes you feel like a massive hog. Ordering up a Fatburger with Fatfries and a Fatshake would make anyone self-conscious of their waistline.

  150. I used to work at a Subway; we would make just about anything you asked for. The only thing Subway does accounting for at the end of the day is bread – every stale or dropped roll needs to be entered into the computer as not sold. Short of that, though, we could give you just about anything you wanted on it. It would usually just get rung up as an “add bacon” – or a “double meat” if you ordered something *really* ridiculous. We couldn’t sell just the bread, which upset some customers – but we could sell a veggie sub with only lettuce on it for pretty cheap, which is *practically* the same thing. ;-)

There were also a lot of discontinued menu items that everyone knew how to make. My favorite was the chicken cordon bleu sub, chicken breast topped with swiss and wrapped in ham, topped with bacon then microwaved.

For that matter, Subway will still microwave any of the sandwiches even though they don’t advertise that any more.. when they ask if you’d like it toasted, you can ask to have it microwaved instead. I much prefer the texture of microwaved subs, personally!

Another note is that if you’re a regular, you’d be surprised how accommodating fast food places can be… There was an older guy who liked to come in twice a week to get a cookie for his grandkid, but the kid had a severe peanut allergy and couldn’t eat the cookie if it had been baked in the same oven as a peanut butter one. The first time the guy asked, we had to tell him that we didn’t have any that weren’t baked with peanut butter – but that from then on, if he called 20 minutes in advance, we’d make a fresh batch of cookies just for him. He stopped having to call after only 2 weeks or so of always coming in at the same time on the same days, and we just got used to making a batch of cookies without any peanut butter at the right time, just for him.

  151. in addition to the mentioned items at Chipotle, try ordering a quesorito, which is basically a quesadilla with all the filling of a burrito, but rolled like a burrito. it makes the tortilla crispier as well as adding some cheesy goodness…

  152. Chipotle in Alameda – South Shore Plaza is nothing like this, they are terrible, they will only stick strickly to the basic menu. I asked for simply adding raw onions to my food and they repeatly tell me they do not have onions and cannot serve onions.

  153. I used to be able to order a Carnitas and Rice bowl at Chipotle for $2.50 when they first opened. It was a good cheap meal.

They got smart, though, and now they charge it as a Carnitas Line Item for $4 instead. =P Boo!

  154. Sonic will also serve a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, which I used to get with pickles and tomatoes. You can also get a banana mixed into just about any drink, which is weird.

  155. Sorry, but a Shamrock Shake is NOT just vanilla with green food coloring; it is very obviously mint.

The “vanilla shake with food coloring” bit is a stupid urban legend.

  156. Yeah, my wife and I still order the Cheesy Gordita Crunch at Taco Bell, and it’s been off the menu for a year or two

  157. At chipotle, ask for your burrito or whatever “stirred” or “mixed” and they will mix up your filling. It’s great!

  158. Has no one heard of the McGangBang!?!?!??!?!

It’s a McChicken Sandwich inside of a double cheeseburger available at any McDonalds in the country! People know about it too!

If you Google it you can find videos of people ordering it and the like!

  159. I worked at a Barnes and Noble Cafe which serves Starbucks but – be warned – they do not have short cups.

I have gone to Subway and ordered the pizza sub and been denied, then customized it (I said something like a meatball sub but with pepperonis instead) and they gave it to me… and it was on the menu in Vancouver.

And I have had good luck customizing at Taco Bell.

  160. A grouse on my part… Since Arby’s bought out Wendy’s, I haven’t been able to get Thousand Island dressing for their side salad. It’s not like Arby’s offers salads, and they didn’t offer it there.

btw, I miss the Encherito, too.

  161. In response to the 100×100, In-n-Out cannot officially make a burger bigger than a 4×4 due to health concerns for the consumer. This is because a grill [or grills] can only hold so many meat patties, resulting in large burgers that must be made in stages, lengthening the cooking time; This opens the way for pathogens to contaminate the product…

  162. At KFC (formerly Kentucky Friend Chicken), I don’t think these are on the menu any more but I always order and get them in San Francisco bay area:
-Mean greens (a bland dish of boiled Collard Greens with ham bits – I think healthier than the sugary, watery cole slaw)
-Rice and spicy beans (ever so yummy)

  163. Here in Alaska at McDonalds that has a “McKinley Mac”, it’s a monster I must say so myself (Nothing as bad as a 4×4 or much of the stuff on this list, but I found this interesting after reading this article) Here’s some else I found out:

    Other Mac Variants:

The Mega Mac or Double Big Mac – four 1.6 oz (45.4 g) beef patties and an extra slice of cheese. Available in China, Ireland, Serbia, Japan, Turkey, Malaysia and Thailand (Double Big Mac). Discontinued in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, limited availability in the United States and Canada (where it is commonly marketed under the name Double Big Mac).

Monster Mac – eight 1.6 oz (45.4 g) beef patties and extra cheese. Discontinued in Germany.

The Mckinley-Mac – made with two quarter pound patties. Named after Mt. McKinley in Alaska, and sold only in that state. Also known as the Bigger Big Mac as an LTO product to celebrate the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

In India, where the high Hindu population means that beef is not common, the Big Mac was renamed the Maharaja Mac and was originally made with lamb instead of beef; however, along with the company’s other items it is now made from chicken.

Son of Mac – Also known as the Mini Mac or Baby Mac, a version with only one patty and no centre roll piece. It sold as a Baby Mac in New Zealand, Was sold in Australia, now discontinued. Served by some stores in the United States under the moniker “Mac Jr”.

In Israel, a special Kosher version of the Big Mac is served without cheese.

In Japan, there was a variant with egg, called the Mega Tamago, as well as a variant with tomato (called the Mega Tomato). Both versions dropped one patty and replaced it with the respective ingredient. Now discontinued.

In France there is a now a whole wheat bread version of the Big Mac. All other ingredients remain unchanged.

  164. When I lived in Japan, they had the Teriyaki McBurger and also the original deep fried apple pies. Both were to die for!

  165. The Buffalo chicken sub at Subway has long been one of my favorites, but I was recently informed that it’s no longer a regular menu item. However, all of the ingredients are still there, so you can still order it.

  166. Oh, and I completely forgot to mention – Go Cyclones! My girlfriend graduated from Iowa State, as did both of her parents. :-)

  167. In Japan there was a burger just released on the McDonald’s Menu called the Mega Tamago back in 2007. When I was over there, and it was amazing.

It’s 3 beef patties, an egg patty, bacon, and spicy sauce.

I’m sure they could make it here so not a secret, but you could always try ;)

  168. Am I the only one that remembers the big and tasty from mcdonalds? to get it now order a quarter pounder with leaf lettuce, tomato and mayo

  169. I don’t know about the 100-patty burger at In-n-Out, but the guy who ordered the 25-patty burger in Vegas in 2005 was Nick Farr, fundraising for the Hacker Foundation. Oh god, you did not want to hear him later that night.

In other news, yes, Taco Bell will make any random thing including enchiritos, if anyone in the store remembers how. Sometimes you have to school them. If they’re not busy, this is usually totally okay.

Try this ANYPLACE: Order a “whatever, surprise me”. They usually come up with something pretty kickass. For the places that don’t grok the request immediately, I explain: “Make me something that’s not on the menu. Make me what you make for yourself before you go on break.” It rules.

  170. Search the net for the McGangBang, it’s real.

  171. I work at Wendy’s in Southern Ontario, and the Grand Slam is alive and well, not on the menu, but still on the register. We will also add any amount of patties onto a burger, so you can get a 4×4, 6×6, 12×12, etc. It will just be ridiculously expensive :S

  172. @ExWendy: Wendy’s now has Vanilla Frosty in Canada (maybe the States as well) and Floats are now a menu option (made with any soft drink and vanilla or chocolate Frosty). They’re delicious.
Subway always has the Pizza Sub in Canada.

  173. I used to work at a subway in highschool and there was a menu item that I would have certain people order that was not on the menu: the chicken pizziola…it’s a layer of pepperoni topped with chicken strips and marinara sauce (tomatoes optional) and then toasted/microwaved. I gave it a try once and it was pretty damn good.

  174. Am in Canada, and will have a pizza sub in your honour good sir.

  175. McDonald’s had a “toasted cheese” back in 1989. They took a regular hamburger bun, flipped it inside out so the non-crust side is facing out, and put a slice of cheese in the middle and toasted it. I don’t know if they still sell them.

  176. I can’t believe no one has mentioned the McGangbang yet.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=McGangbang

    http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/post/82006852/mcgangbang-a-mcchicken-sandwich-inside-a-double

  177. I very much miss the International Chicken sandwiches from BK(American/French/Italian), probably 15-20 years since they were on all the menus. They seem to be available in some areas, but not around here(Philly area). My favorite was the french version. But it seems that they no longer keep the swiss cheese for this, but the rest of the ingredients are there. I really do wish they’d bring these back.

  178. Replying to Bob Loblaw waaaay up there, it’s not just Outback. Almost any restaurant will season your prime rib and sear it.

  179. If you dont like your iced macciatto layered, order it “upside down” and it will come out mixed for you. :)

  180. Starbucks:

Response to JFK being a triple shot, its called that on the east coast worked at on in dc. heard it referred to being a tko also.
Tuxedo, zebra, penguin, Black and white Mocha
Red tux, bleeding penguin, Raspberry black and white mocha
Some places, Uber Caramel Frappachino Caramel on inside of the cup, under the whip cream and on top of the whipped cream
French Vanilla Latte: 1 pump of hazelnut 2 pumps vanilla latte for tall
You can make any drink you want, just make sure the flavor shots equal the cup size, 3 for tall 4 for grande 5 for venti hot, 2-3-4 for cold. favorite is 2 pumps toffee nut 1 pump white mocha
If you have time order a french pressed coffee, its always fresh as they have to make it for you on the spot though its a bigger container and you can usually get any flavor of coffee you want.

  181. McDonalds here in College Station, TX serves a McGB which we call a Mc Gang Bang..

It is a double cheeseburger with a spicy McChicken inbetween both beef paties.

    It. Is. Delicious.

  182. Fair warning–if you’re going to order a lot of modifiers, don’t do it with 20 people behind you in line, or you may find unwanted “surprise ingredients” in your food.

As far as Chipotle goes, they don’t serve raw onions simply because of the fact that they’re mixed in with the green peppers already. It takes too much time to just pull out one ingredient. However, I’ve made quesadillas galore, bowls that nobody would consider, and even “nachos”. All they are are the chips placed in a bowl and covered with cheese, then covered with a lid and placed on the press for a bit to melt the cheese. While they cook, ask for everything else you want with them in a separate bowl, and then just dip your nachos!

For anyone in the Midwest looking for a flavor treat, swing by Springfield, IL for something new–a horseshoe. It’s essentially an open-faced double-patty hamburger covered with fries and drenched in a special cheese sauce (some restaurants offer different sauces). The most delicious thing I have ever eaten! It’s become a “local favorite” on menus of restaurants like Steak n Shake and Carlos O’Kelly’s!

  183. I know here in Canada at Burger King you can add as many patty’s to your whopper’s you want. I think it’s like $1 extra per patty

Also here in Canada the Pizza sub at Subway is still regularly available

  184. At McDonalds in Amsterdam you can order a “Royale with Cheese”. I hear it’s just like a Quarter-Pounder.

  185. Also if your really in a cheapskate mood here’s a trick from McDonald’s in Canada about mayo. If your ordering something that does not have mayo(like a quarter pounder, chesse burger etc.) and you ask for “mayo” they will charge you 10c but to get around this just ask for McChicken sauce packets. There free and it’s Mayo

Also I thought I’d mention this as I’ve heard that Subway’s in the US don’t have BBQ sauce. Here in Canada our Subway’s have always had BBQ sauce as far back as I can remember. Just a note for any American’s who come to Canada :)

  186. http://fantasymenu.blogspot.com

list of things that can be made (maybe not ordered) at In N Out using the ingredients they have on hand.

  187. At Chick-Fil-A you can order a “fried club” sandwich, replacing the oddly-flavored chargrill chicken with their regular fried meat.
Sometimes they know what you’re asking for, sometimes you have to repeat it, but they’ll always make it. It’s tasty!

  188. Starbucks: strawberry blended black tea. I don’t believe this was ever on the menu – a manager told me and my friend about it, then whipped ‘em up for us. It’s similar to the strawberry blended lemonade, substituting black tea for the lemonade. Really good. Starbucks has changed their strawberry mix so it’s not as sweet as it used to be, so you may want to have them add a couple shots of syrup in this one.

  189. 35 years ago I worked at Jack in the Box. They had a price list next to the cash register for extras, so you could get extra cheese, another hamburger patty, a slice of ham, whatever you wanted, we’d know what to charge.
When I worked the graveyard shift I usually ended the night with a Breakfast Jack with an added fish patty.

  190. At Little Caesers they make a stuffed crust pizza, but the ones around my town NEVER advertise it. Whenever we order it, they give us a dirty look, and suggest that we try their deep dish. If you want the stuffed crust from them(Which is really good), call in advance so they can go ahead and start making it.

  191. I used to work at a Dairy Queen, and they actually kept a stash of all-green mint M&Ms in the back freezer. If you ask for a mint M&M Blizzard up front, generally the dork at the register will think you mean “M&M Blizzard, add a dash of the mint goo for sundaes”, so you need to specify, “Vanilla Blizzard, use the *green* *mint M&Ms*.” Of course you could also add that mint goo, but it’s a different experience. I got customers asking for this a couple of times when I was there, and now I hassle the rookies for it.

  192. at the dairy queen i used to work at in my hometown (burlington WI) you can get footlong hot dogs. since they aren’t a regular DQ menu item, they aren’t listed on the menu. I’m not sure how many other locations have them, but if you don’t wanna order 2 hot dogs, its great. Also, aside from just the regular blizzard and sundae flavors, you can request any combination. we even had a customer bring in starburst and made her a custom starburst blizzard.

  193. The pizza sub isn’t really a secret at Subway, I see it on the menu all the time.

  194. Marco’s pizza, a chain in the Michigan, Ohio, and a few other states nearby-area has a pizza called the Pepperoni Melt which appears on no menus but they will all make. Its just a pizza with a ton of cheese and near solid layer of pepperoni.

  195. For Starbucks

    • If you order a short, they whisper your order when it’s ready rather than calling it out at the top of their lungs. I asked a friend who works at Starbucks about this and he said they’re specifically instructed to do that.
    posted by AG

I worked at Starbucks for 5 years and this has never been true. Though it might be a regional thing. District managers have a lot of leeway with things like that.

    • Can’t believe no was has mentioned the other starbucks secret options. a “Shot in the Dark” = black coffee with a shot of espresso dropped in it.
    posted by G

We always called this a “Red Eye” at my store. Two shots in the coffee was a “Black Eye” and three shots was a “Blue Eye.”

If you have time order a french pressed coffee, its always fresh as they have to make it for you on the spot though its a bigger container and you can usually get any flavor of coffee you want.
    posted by Grem

Beware of ordering this when the store is busy, all you’ll do is make the barista take longer on everything else that is going on at the time, and sometimes they’ll forget to do it entirely, if they’re really swamped. It involves specially measuring out and grinding the coffee, and takes 5 minutes to steep. Also, it costs about as much as two Grande cups of coffee, but only serves two Tall cups. Worth it if you want a specific type, but probably not, otherwise.

Another thing you can do that I haven’t seen on here is ask for a smaller size coffee in a bigger cup. If you like putting a lot of milk in your coffee and always have to dump a bunch out to have room, as for your Tall coffee in a Grande or Venti cup, which still gives you the amount of coffee you’re paying for, but allows you to put in as much creamer as you want.

Don’t order that cheapo iced latte that someone mentioned if you want to be a regular at a Starbucks, though. All you’ll get is lots of dirty looks from the baristas who then have to change the milk carafes more frequently. I rather routinely caught homeless guys getting “ice waters” then dumping out the water and filling the cup with milk. Needless to say, they were not welcome back into the store if we caught them doing it.

  196. At McDonald’s in India you can order a McCurry

  197. Definitely have ordered the Butterfinger Smoothie at Jamba Juice multiple times. It is unbelievable– both in flavor and calories.

  198. Some Taco Bells still make The Bell Beefer with cheese. It is not on the menu and you have to ask and pray.

  199. I live in Canada and yes Pizza sub is on the menu, its very very filling, I only wish they still had Deli style bread you got more than a 6″ and it cost less :D

  200. McDonalds in Bulgaria used to serve a McRoyale- not any more.
At one time they had like China Theme menu, Shrimp-Seseme Bites?-Something else i couldn’t figure out.
They also have Curry dipping sauce for your Nuggets( The Shizit!!!)
    McToast-Ham and cheese(Backward buns-grilled)
    No ice in your Drink
5yr ago no lid for your drink! Now you get’em
20cents(local money)for a pkt of Ketchup!!! 5yr ago that was a loaf of bread!
They serve Beer too! Kinda makes up for the bad though. ;)

  201. I used to work at Dairy Queen (in texas…the menu is actually quite different and we even have our own DQ site!) but we would always try and customize anything. We even had one guy order a large blizzard with EVERYTHING! ME and my friend made the nastiest gooiest blizzard ever…he loved it though so its all good. Watch out, adding extra candy in a blizzard normally cost extra, but some people don’t do this. (I never did, and neither did most people. Only the morning crew did…i swear, they have all worked there for 20+ years and are waaaaaay to anal about some things…)

  202. at Starbucks: White Chocolate Mocha Frappacino, amazing ^_^

I used to work at a Godiva Chocolatiers where they make drinks.

    \Secret\ items\

    White Hot Chocolate

    Caramel Hot Chocolate

    White Chocolate Caramel Cold Drinks

  203. Starbucks: i used to order the big cup of whipped cream all the time and it was only 25cents! one girl even put caramel on it! then a manager saw me eating it and yelled at me for ordering it and asked me who sold it to me and i told him i didnt know and left and never went back ugh.

want more cold drink ? ask for no ice and then ask for a cup of ice because thats free. you saved some cents and moved up a size.

  204. Okay, so one of my friends in college used to manage a Taco Bell, which was awesome ’cause we got free food. Anyway, one night she took a gordito wrap and fried it and then put the cinnamon/sugar on top of it. Amazing. It tasted just like fry bread. Haven’t tried to convince any other Taco Bell’s to make it but it was SO good.

  205. “A and W” has the “Monster burger” or “Animal burger”.

you will likely confuse the till, just get them to ask the cooks. they know what it is and how to ring it up.

8 patty burger. I ordered it twice.

  206. I know this isn’t much of a secret, but you can add Mac sauce to anything at mcdonald’s for free.

Also! When I order my crunchwrap supremes, I get them with no tomato, no sour cream, extra nacho cheese, and get it double wrapped. (They wrap it once, flip it over, and wrap it again.) They screw you with the extra fifty cents, but you can drop that thing off of a building and it will remained unscathed. It’s delicious. I call it the Crazy Crunchwrap.

  207. At Schzlotsky’s deli, if you order a TEXAN you get a hot Ham and Cheese sandwich with a hardy helping of jalapeno’s on jalapeno/cheese bread. So good, and nobody except the owner’s know usually.

  208. All of these secrets and my boyfriend still can’t order a “two hamburger meal” at McDonalds without the following exchange taking place:

Him: I’d like a two hamburger meal, please.

McD Person: We don’t have that.

Him: I’d like a two cheeseburger meal, WITH NO CHEESE.

    McD Person: Okay.

    Him: (Sigh of Frustration)

  209. Somewhat offtopic, but does anyone remember the Bonus Jack at Jack in the Box? Basically a Big Mac knockoff, but I have fond memories of it.

  210. At the Subway I used to work at: We used to be able to do pizza subs, or any other meat variations. Then we got new owners & had to stop. Menu items only; no substitutions allowed. Needless to say, a lot of unhappy people.

  211. Did u no you can order anything from mcdonalds with Big Mac Sauce?…anything try the double cheeseburger or the mcchicken with it…totally baller

  212. @ Greg Moore

I’ve also heard it been called the mother lode and instead of half and half, they use heavy cream. Either way, still pretty good.

    @ Reed

    That sounds pretty delish actually.

Also what some people do is blend whipped cream into their fraps or put whip on the bottom and the top. I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems to be good.

  213. @capncraka; haha, I think you may have pointed out something I didn’t even realize was a secret menu item. One of the Subways in my hometown of Marshfield, Missouri had a chicken pizziola sub on the menu for a while – I’ve never seen it anywhere else. It’s one of my favorites!

Here in southwest Missouri, the pizza sub is a hit and miss thing – some Subways have it, others don’t, but it’s not uncommon. When I was in high school, every other Saturday (the day after payday) I’d go to Subway and treat myself to a footlong, usually pizza or meatball marinara.

This falls under “recipes” more than “secret menu items,” but I’m betting any place with the right ingredients will make this. A couple years ago, when I was a college sophomore, I worked at a frozen custard place (quite similar to Andy’s Frozen Custard, which is all over southwest Missouri, at least). I got one free item every time I worked so I often experimented. My favorite, by far, was the banana pudding concrete I made. It was sliced bananas, graham cracker bits, and “cake batter” custard (really a cake mix blended with the custard), topped with whipped cream.

Most places that offer concretes (blizzards, for those who speak only DQ) will make one for you with the chocolate shell. It’s insanely easy and causes the chocolate to fracture into cool little slivery bits.

  214. Am guessin this site is aimed only at america since half those restaurants don’t exist in britain, but am happy to say that pizza subs are on offer at 99p here :)

  215. My sister used to always get fried chicken livers at KFC. As far as I know, they’re still available if you know to ask.

  216. I’ve never been able to order a Gordita Crunch at Taco Bell, except for when they have it as a limited-time special. :(

  217. I worked at Taco Bell 20 years ago and we used to have green sauce available but not advertised. Good stuff, better than the red sauce for my taste.

  218. Ok, just to clarify some things about Starbucks… basically any ingredient we have can be mixed into anything, made into anything, making for thousands of possible combinations.
Weirdest woman ever once asked for crushed espresso beans on top of her whip cream… and we did it! there is no way to charge for it, but at my store at least, we’ll do it if you ask for it.
Also the rule at Starbucks is if you want extra of something that is already IN the beverage you’re ordering (like you want extra caramel sauce on your caramel frappucino)then we DON’T charge for it, but if you want to add something that isn’t already an ingredient (like adding mocha to your caramel frappucino) then we WILL charge you for it. Again, I don’t know how it works at other stores, but I’m sure they share a similar policy and i imagine most fast food places do to.
Yes, the people that just order shots over ice and then add milk to it for free are kinda annoying.
I’ve never been instructed to whisper “short”. It’s not on the menu, but it’s not a secret size really. It’s the “kids size”. People order shorts all the time. And when people get espresso shots to go that’s the cups we use.
Ok, also… with these “nickname” drinks (like shot in the dark, zebra mocha), I think some customers think they’re being clever and “in the know” about some of them, but fail to realize that a lot of these are regional nicknames and even some stores have “inside joke” nicknames. Sorry, I’ve just had customers get mad at me when I didn’t know what they were talking about. I’m not a newbie. Been working for Starbucks for six years.

  219. @starbucks, it’s not on the menu but it’s my regular a ‘french vanilla’ latte. A vanilla latte with a pump or two of hazulnut.

also, when in season a ‘trick or treat’ latte. it’s a pumpkin spice with a shot of white & regular mocha. Very sugary.

  220. My favourite secret items from McDonald’s twenty years ago, cheese danish, apple danish, cherry pie, pumpkin pie, and a double quarter pounder (some may think it’s a more recent item but we in the grill ate them a lot and we sold them at the counter for a little extra), of course as an employee you had the bottomless courtesy cup of any soft drink and a free meal if you worked more than four hours.

  221. At least in my part of California, Taco Bell has Enchiritos on the menu, and my husband still regularly ordered them even when they weren’t officially available (the occasional cashier had to ask for help ringing it up, but the cooks always knew what to make).

  222. When I worked at McDonalds – 15 years ago – you could ask for a Fancy Sundae. It was vanilla ice cream with all of the toppings in the bottom of the cup and again on the top. Don’t know how that was “Fancy” but we made a lot of them.

  223. I like the vanilla beans shake, just a classic flavor.

  224. Hampton Mansion in Baltimore (Towson, actually) hasn’t served food since the US Park Service closed down the Tea Room in 1999. http://tinyurl.com/mbc9vz

  225. McD’s chocolate & shamrock shake is called the McLeprechaun.

  226. @Michelle from Burlington, WI: I used to go to that DQ as a very rare treat when I was a kid, shortly after my parents split. Pops would take us there, probably b/c mom wouldn’t, and we’d all get foot-long chili cheese dogs. Still some of my fondest food memories…

  227. I used to work at wendys. you can add anything you want, its all on the cashier’s computers. And theres a few items not on the menu…the triple stack and somethin with bacon. forget the name

  228. The In-n-Out menu on their website is not the entire menu.

  229. When I go to Dairy Queen I usually order the cookie dough blizzard with coffee flavoring in it. Thats delicious. I have only tried this in the TX DQ’s but I dont see why the other DQ’s outside the state woudlnt do it. For those unaware the TX Dairy Queens are completely independent of the Braziers or Grill in Chills of the northern states.

  230. It often seems like people don’t understand the modularity of beverages in cafes (including Starbucks). We can, and usually will, put any combination of flavors, milks, and other things in your drink if you ask for them. I’ve had people bring in their own lactose & soy free milks. If you really want to pay for it, you can get a suicide latte (every flavor, only seen one ordered once). I work at a Barnes&Noble cafe (which, as mentioned, does not carry the short size) and one awesome thing to do is order a slice of cheesecake and get it blended into a frappuccino. It’s a $10 drink (for nonemployees), and a heart attack through a straw, but it’s amazing. My friend also has made a cookies & creme frappuccino with chocolate chip cookies, mocha, and creme frap base. My personal favorite recipe is a raspberry mocha macchiato. Raspberry syrup, then the steamed milk. The milk turns a bright pink. Pour the espresso through the top, and cover the espresso mark with a chocolate drizzle heart. The presentation impresses people every time.

  231. If you are ever at Mcdonalds, ask for a “McGangBang” It is a double cheeseburger with an entire mcchicken sandwich in between the two beef patties (yes the entire sandwich, bun and all) Plus, nothing gets a more priceless look than asking for a mcgangbang

  232. Teve:

Burger King still has the “Big King” in Canada. As a matter of fact, it’s usually the Monday special $3.99 value meal.

It’s not bad, but I still prefer a Whopper.

  233. Jack in the Box: Any burger can be ordered on sourdough. The Ultimate Cheeseburger on sourdough is one of the best fast food burgers in existence.

  234. at chipotle, get a ‘quesidilla-style burrito’. they take the tortilla, make a quesidilla, then open it up and make the burrito. very good, grilled on the outside, gooey cheese warm on inside

  235. not sure if they have this in the US but deep fried mars bars etc appear on menu’s at some food places in scotland

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep-fried_Mars_Bar

  236. Did someone mention the Starbucks Marble Mocha Macchiato? White Mocha on the bottom, steamed milk, foam, two shots of espresso, and mocha on top? Ridiculous amount of sugar.

“This may not be a true secret item, but more like secret math. At most coffee shops, iced lattes are ridiculously expensive. Just order two or three shots of espresso over ice in a large cup. Fill the rest with milk at the mixing station and save a buck or so.”

We hate people who do this, and we talk about you while we’re making coffee.

  237. It’s not a true secret, but at Wendy’s, you can order a kid-sized Frosty at a fraction of the price of a small. No purchase of a kids’ meal required. And the tiny cup is damned adorable.

  238. To all the people yearning for an enchritio or saying they’re a “secret menu item”: where the HELL are you living?! they’ve been back on the menu (on the eastcoast at least) for about five YEARS! available with ground beef, steak or chicken. also, in the last year I’ve had them (from the menu) in San Diego, Seattle, Kansas City, Portsmouth(VA), and Tampa. Secret item?? WHAT??

  239. McDonald’s in Thailand offers the most awesome burger I have ever feasted upon

    The Samurai Pork Burger

  240. Be warned, the *real* green chili sauce at Taco Bell is basically just pureed Jalapenos, and it is spicy and delicious.

The watered down anemic crap they sometimes have next to sauce packets and sporks is completely different.

It was only used on one regular menu item, the ‘grilled steak burrito’, way back in 91-92 which had grilled sirloin strips, tater tots, green sauce, and was incredibly good.

They’d still have it if it weren’t for the endemic spice fearing midwestern palette.

  241. i wasn’t aware that the Grand Slam was a big secret. it’s regularly advertised here.

if my mom gets her way, we’ll soon have a battered fries option at Ale House (at least the Jupiter location). she’s been ragging the (now regional) manager for YEARS.
they did once season them for us…

i will make sure to try ordering an Orgasm next time i’m at Sonic.

  242. to Rob in the UK: The Pizza menu item available at UK Subways is not the same as the pizza sub. It is merely half a sub with marinara sauce, pepperoni and cheese, toasted. It’s nice, but it’s not what these american guys are talking about.

  243. A co-worker let me know that you can order a steak/egg & cheese bagel…but instead have it on an english muffin. Any of you remember the \cheddar melt\, I loved that thing!º̚º the rye bun was tops!

  244. “At Long John Silver’s, order a “side of crumbs.” It’s a box of the fried batter crunchies that hang off their fish and chicken planks, and best of all, it’s free of charge. Can’t say it’s healthy by any stretch of the imagination, but it tastes delicious!” Mix in a crap load of Cocktail sauce and you have a free meal!

  245. I think the pizza sub survives as an off the menu item because the employees eat it, speaking as an ex-employee. I used to mix and match more than that too.

I don’t know if the only accounting for bread thing is true though. Management used to tell me that they knew damn well we weren’t pushing double ingredients and bacon based on the count.

Amusingly, I also discovered one night while playing with the computer register that anything Subway sells in its chain is in there. So I started ringing up menu items up as what they were (like a pizza sub), instead of making something up (spicey italian with complimentary marinara). Then I got told to knock it off, management had to cancel those things out the next day.

I quit in 2000, so some of my observations are probably dated. Like being taught to do the U-gouge.

  246. I was under the impression that many, if not most, Taco Bells no longer carry the green sauce at all. It was off the menu but available for many years (mid 90s onward) but I think most stores dropped it altogether a few years back.

  247. We had a local arby’s that would make a breakfast sandwich with scrapple instead of sausage if you asked.

But I’m sure that’s a VERY local thing and even Arby’s Corp didn’t know that was going on.

  248. http://www.slashfood.com/2009/09/23/11-secret-fast-food-menu-items/

This list looks surprisingly familiar, eh?

  249. At alot of McDonalds, you can order the “McHero” which is a 50 piece nugget. great for late night rides home from the bar, because everyone can just pass around boxes of mcnuggets

  250. I cannot believe that no one has said the “monkey brain” option at in and out… It is their fries on top of the meat patty

  251. Nearly every time I go to Starbucks, I order a Marble Mocha Macchiato. It was taken off the menu quite a few years ago, but they have always made it for me. Sometimes I get a few laughs because it’s such a mouthful to say, and one time a couple of girls had to look up the recipe and let me be the judge if it was done right. It was, and it’s good! Many people don’t know it exists… but I suppose that goes for a lot of drinks at Starbucks.

Another Starbucks “secret item” is the Mocha Valencia… I haven’t experimented asking for this one too much, it may vary at stores, but if you like chocolate & orange, then definitely go for it!

  252. ruby tuesdays use to have a buffalo chicken salad they took it off the menue but they will still make it and its very good

  253. my two favorite off the menu items at starbucks:

venti iced 1/2 passion tea 1/2 applejuice with 1 pump of classic syrup.

i overheard a barista make this for his friend a few summers ago and i’ve been ordering it ever since when i need a great cold drink.

the next one is similar to the one above but it’s not a macchiato.

its half white chocolate mocha and half regular mocha. has several names:

i usually order: grande non fat no whip tuxedo mocha.

but, depending on the store, they may also call this a:

    zebra mocha
    a penguin mocha
    a michael jackson mocha

    enjoy.

  254. I think what people aren’t aware of when it comes to which Starbucks serve short sizes and which don’t is that some are franchises and some aren’t “real” Starbucks. Starbucks in airports and bookstores (they’re in Chapters in Canada) are merely places that serve Starbucks products. In Canada, their employees don’t officially work for the mermaid – rather the bookstore, or airport food service provider.

We’re told to “just say yes” to any reasonable drink request; but we’re not allowed to bring in outside milk into our stores like someone mentioned here. Can you imagine going into McDonalds and saying “hey, I can’t eat your cheeseburger. Can you cook this patty instead?” I’m pretty sure you’re playing with some food inspector fire there.

  255. Great article (I’m already very familiar with the Fatburger and In-and-Out secret menus from my trips to LA), but I tend to doubt some of the assertions regarding places like McDonald’s and Taco Bell. The last time I tried to order a “Black and White” milkshake was such a time consuming ordeal in terms of explaining that I just wanted Vanilla and … Read MoreChocolate mixed together that I would REALLY be surprised if anybody knew what the hell I was talking about when I ordered a “Neapoloitan.” For that matter, they’re all so reliant on their little colored-button registers that I wouldn’t trust ANY kind of special order from the major chains.

  256. Dated this girl who worked at Pizza Hut… She invented this white chicken pizza w/ ranch baked into it instead of marinara. im not even a fan of ranch but it was delicious! i’ve had some luck ordering it at a few location here in CA and also in AZ and WA, but mostly they look at u like you’re crazy.

Also my EX always requests her burgers “cut in half” at In-N-Out.. for picky eaters and to avoid the mess.
BTW that dude was right they have a new policy on no more than 5×5.

I have a friend who adds lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc… to double cheeseburgers at Mac Donalds. some locations will charge though.

  257. Does anyone know if it’s possible to still get the original strawberry syrup from Starbucks? My kingdom for and Upside-Down Strawberry Lemonade with Whipped!!! (with the original strawberry of course)

  258. Taco Cabana makes pancakes bacon and eggs or just pancakes for less then $3 pretty filling with four large pancakes on the plate.

  259. At chick-fil-a, you can get fries well done. Also, you can order chicken sandwiches with bacon and/or cheese, with choice between american and provolone.

  260. I’ve order the half chocolate and half Shamrock shake at McDonald’s. It’s the shit!

  261. At McDonald’s in Costa Rica they had something called the Tico Burger which was a cheese burger with a crunchy tortilla, black refried beans, and a green chili sauce. It was weird and was really hard to eat.

  262. The Pizza sub is still on the menus here in New Mexico. It is even on the 5 dollar foot long menu at most stores.

  263. I live in Parkersburg,WV and our Mc Donalds,Burger Kings, Subways, Pizza Huts…etc, any national chain will fix whatever you want, even if its not on the menu. I even had BK make me the Canadian french fries and mozzarella cheese dish…\poutan\. If they have what it takes and you have the money…the skys is the limit. I’m looking forward to more secret fast food info….keep em comin. Thanks

  264. What is scrapple from Arbys…LOL…never heard of scrapple

  265. Jethro, I still request the U-gouge. I remember when they stopped doing it. Heart-breaking.

  266. McDo has always something to offer that is unique and weird, but many refuses of its recipes are kept secret. Good recipes are created for the good of the customers this is the policy in rigdo.

  267. Arby’s still has the Super.

  268. mcdonalds has pumpkin pie during the holiday season and it is incredible good

  269. definitely still have the pizza sub up here!

  270. I don’t really consider it a secret, but at Subway, I always get my original creation: the chicken cordon bleu! i get oven roasted chicken on italian bread with ham and swiss cheese, topped with parmesan! it’s delicious!

  271. I haven’t lived in the States for a while now but you used to be able to order specialty shakes that aren’t on the menu at Steak n Shake. I think one of them was called a double chocolate chip shake and there were a few others. They were very, very good!!

  272. few people know this but u can get 2% milk instead of the norm pepsi at taco bell :3

  273. Go to McDonalds and order a McGangbang, its their chicken sandwich INSIDE a double cheeseburger, not on the menu… but they will make it!

  274. Someone already posted that Panera Bread will do most anything you want but easily my favorite off-menu item there is the Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich. It is incredibly delicious if you like a good caesar.

  275. in the philippines, the short size is openly displayed in menus

  276. In Maine you can order a McLobster sandwich. I am not kidding.

  277. I work at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and a popular drink the employees get are double, triple, or quad iced espresso with any flavor powder added to it, such as hazelnut, dark chocolate, etc. You can go to counter with all the milk and sugar on it and add however much amount of milk u want to it. It’s pretty much the same as an iced latte but cheaper! some other things people don’t know about is that you don’t have to just have plain old hot chocolate. you can get a hot white chocolate, hazelnut, etc. my favorite is hot dark chocolate/hazelnut. same with the lattes.

  278. I don’t know if its a secret item now but for a while you could get a crab cake sandwich at certain McDonald’s in Maryland

  279. when i was a kid me and my brother used to get the cotton candy blizzard at dairy queen (so delicious!!) For a while they didn’t have them on the menu but they would still give them to us.

  280. Chick-fil-A has a secret item and it is INCREDIBLE!!!

Order the Chicken and Gravy Biscuit. They slice a biscuit then cut a chicken patty into chunks and put on the biscuit then drench the whole think in buttermilk gravy. whew! it is awesome!

  281. Not a fast food place, but at Firebirds (a steak house chain) they used to have fried spinach on the menu but took it off during the spinach/E. coli scare. However if you ask for it they will make it for you, and it is great.

  282. When ordering Ice Cream from McDonalds, ask for them to put it in a cup instead of a cone, with an excuse like, “I don’t want to spill it in my car” or “I’m allergic to wheat”. Most of the restaurant clerks (a.k.a servers, whatever you want to call them, the people who prepare the food, in the case of beverages and ice cream, it will usually be the person who took your money.) will fill the cup to the brim, so as to not look stingy, which results in much more ice cream than you would get with a cone.

Of course wether or not you want that much ice-cream is up to you, and sometimes they will cheap out and get a kids size cup to fill instead of a regular size.

  283. Try ordering a “why bother” at a coffee shop – you’ll get a non-fat decaf latte with the sugar-free version of whatever flavor you choose.

I cracked up whenever anyone ordered a “tall why-bother mocha in a grande cup with extra whipped cream”. yeah, that happens.

  284. At Starbucks you can order a coffee in the next larger cup, if you want room for fixens without having less coffee. (I regularly order a short in a tall cup for a fast pick-me-up)

  285. Surprised I haven’t seen this yet but Burger King’s “Western Burger” can still be made at most BK’s. it’s a cheese burger with bbq sauce and an onion ring. I’ve only been refused this item about once every sixth BK I’ve ordered it from. Usually it’s some hardass manager who doesn’t feel like allowing former menu items to be custom ordered. I’ve ordered these all over the US while stationed in various bases.

  286. I worked at SubWay and, except for meats that require special sauces like the tuscan or the buffalo chicken, they make everything with what’s right there. Since none of the items that went into a pizza sub went away, and since you can order a sub made your way, there’s no need to be without a pizza sub.

As a new employee, however, they don’t tell you how to make it and so be patient and tell the people behind the counter how you want it. It’s easier than getting frustrated. ;)

  287. grr! i tried ordering a fresco chicken fiesta burrito at a taco bell in los angeles last week, only to be told it was “no longer available, it was only around for a limited time.” mind you, it was still on the menu, with a picture!

so i asked the cashier, “so you can’t make it? it’s beans, cheese, rice, and fresco salsa. i know you have those ingredients, can’t you make it off the menu?” and he said NO!

his reasoning? there was no button for it on the cash register!

  288. Another Starbucks secret is the Misto. I’m not sure what distinguishes it from an ordinary latte, but it’s certainly cheaper.

  289. what about the Two Cheeseburger meal at McDonalds? Its not on the menu but they def have it. Their Hot Mustard sauce is really good too, but no one knows about it.

  290. There was a guy living in our basement who worked at a JitB. It wasn’t on the menu, and you couldn’t order it (unless he was working), but he made a ‘Heart Attack on a Bun’ which consisted of a beef patty topped with a chicken patty topped with a taco. The condiments varied but almost always included buttermilk ranch.

  291. Oh, and Steak n’ Shake will give you a big bowl of cherries at your request. Even whip in a little whip cream if you’d like.

  292. Also at Chik-Fil-A, they have provelone cheese that you can get on your chicken sandwich.

  293. Just to clear it up: the subway pizza sub actually has 12 slices of pepperoni. Not just 9.

  294. I tried to order the Beefy Cheesy Melt (beef, cheese, rice, more cheese) after it had gone off the menu and got denied! WTF?

  295. having worked at mcdonald’s previously, there is a lot that can be made if customers are willing to ask… the mint chocolate shake, apple pies a la mode, burgers with as many patties as you could want (but why would you want?)

if there is someone working who really loves going beyond the call of duty (one of our old managers loved to do this) you can order soda-flavored shakes or ice creams. they just have to get the syrup from soda and mix it with the shake or ice cream… bada bing! however, it’s a lot to ask, so it’s pretty rare to find someone who will go that extra mile.

  296. I worked at a whataburger, for those of you not in the southwest… your missing out.
They have chicken fajitas, not advertised. Also, vegetarian burger, regular burger but instead of the patty they will put hashbrowns, at any time of day.
also the ridiculous amount of combinations they claim you can make…. not a joke.

  297. I miss the Arch Deluxe from McD’s.

  298. I’m going to try the Jamba Juice menu soon.

  299. One I like is that at breakfast, McDonalds will sell you an order of just scrambled eggs for 99c. Not on the menu boards but there’s a button on the register. Nice for low-carb diets. Couple of times a week, I get 2 Egg McMuffins and scrambled eggs. Throw away most of the muffins, and its a nice low-carb protein breakfast. OK a little high in cholesterol, but for this we have Lipitor.

  300. @Rusty:

It’s Tiramisu, and you should have tried it!!! MMMMM….my mom actually makes the best one I’ve ever had, totally kicks @ss on anything bought. It’s made with :
lady finger biscuits (cookies) dipped in espresso, strong coffee, rum, or amaretto (that’s my mom’s secret, sorry mom), layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolks, mascarpone cheese, sugar, topped with cocoa.

See picture of a little bit of heaven here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tiramisu_Fanes.jpg

I also did not know everyone couldn’t get Pizza Subs…..Poor people.

  301. Tim Hortons in Ontario will make a toasted bagel with cheddar cheese and bacon on it if you ask.

  302. Pizza sub still very much on the menu here in Australia: Pepperoni, Salami, cheese & tomato marinara sauce

  303. At Starbucks, they also have a drink called the “Captain Crunch” it’s not on the menu, but boy is it good (:

  304. At starbucks, just order a frappuchino,m and you can have any syrups you want in them. My favorite is white chocolate peppermint.

  305. I work at Starbucks. Here are some drinks that aren’t on the menu that are pretty good:
-Marble Mocha Machiatto (like a caramel machiatto, but with white mocha instead of vanilla and mocha instead of caramel)
-Crunchberry frappucino (strawberries and cream frappucino with toffee nut instead of classic syrup)
-Ask for a frappucino “affagato” style (it means they will put a shot on top of your frap instead of blending it in. Looks pretty cool too.)
-If you liked the caramel brulee latte that was seasonal over the winter, getting a half caramel half toffee nut latte will be the closest thing to the original.
I’m sure there are more, but those are the first ones that popped into my head.

  306. i asked for the short at my starbucks, they said they don’t have anything like that. Maybe it’s because it’s technically “Barnes and Noble Cafe” and they serve Starbucks coffee instead of a real Starbucks.

  307. I have ordered quesadillas more than once at Chipotle. Also you can order as many tacos as you want, I normally get two. I managed a lacrosse team in high school so I ate at Chipotle a lot.

  308. I have ordered the black taco at taco bell at my moments of fast-food weakness since its discontinuation, and have never been denied. They just don’t have the black colored shells anymore.

  309. i just had Pizza Sub yesterday in Canada !!

  310. At Taco Bell, I still get the Cheeserito (sp?), which I believe is the same thing as the aforementioned Chillito. It’s melted cheese and a red chili sauce with tomatoes. Yummy, and just 99 cents.

  311. The Baja sauce at Taco Bell is free, and you can request it on anything. I recommend the Chicken Burrito with Baja added (it’s much like adding ranch to chicken), or a plain taco with Baja added for extremely cheap, yet expensive-tasting, tacos.

You can also do this at most any sushi restaurant. Many of the special rolls that cost upwards of $12 and beyond taste so much better than the $4 rolls mostly because of the sauces on top, not necessarily the expensive seafoods within. Spicy anything rolls with eel sauce and spicy mayonnaise on top is practically cheating.

  312. I like the veggie subs – but Subway never has them for their cheap daily deal. So I order meat on the side, then toss it. I asked before for no meat and they said they can’t give me the deal if I don’t take the meat…this makes no sense, but I get the guys working there are just following orders. So getting it on the side, paying the deal-price for a veggie sub and tossing the meat works okay too.

  313. I work at DQ, and we still do things that are no longer on the menu like: Jack and jill, banana supreme, red white and blue parfait, parfait, blue raspberry ice tea, dixie land, misty freeze, strawberry shortcake, triple chocolate utopia, malts, banana spilt ice cream cakes, misty floats, twisted oreo, and pineapple upside down blizzard

  314. At Dairy Queen, they will still make you a Mister Misty, which is a slushie with vanilla ice cream. A slushie float, of sorts. I like the cherry.

  315. That comment about the Badger pizza at Pizza Hut is reasonable, since the University of Wisconsin is right in the middle of the state.

  316. My sister works at Chick Fil A and has made me milkshakes with vanilla base and a couple shots of blueberry cheesecake topping, or even a blueberry cheesecake by buying a cheesecake and a vanilla milkshake and having them blended together. She says you can also ask for a “spicy char”- which is a chargrilled (non-breaded) chicken piece with the spicy seasonings on it. I’ve also gotten grilled tenders but they were a HUGE let down- flat and dry, not full and juicy.

  317. My Dairy Queen Makes me a coke freeze with chocolate ice cream and pineapple topping.

Several Coffee Beans have made an Iced Blended English Breakfast latte for me.

    yummy.

  318. In the South, we have a restaurant called “Boudreaux’s Cajun Kitchen” and you can order ‘fondue’. It is not on the menu. It is a mixture of seafood, seasonings, and cheese melted together to basically make a thick dip. They serve it with bread. If you are on a diet, this is best avoided. If you are looking for some amazing comfort food though, it’s insanely delicious!

  319. I worked at a subway while in college a few years back and I have two secrets.

Subway has some regional sandwiches that sell in certain areas. They had a pineapple pork one that was sold in Hawaii at one time etc. Well during the time they were promoting the regional subs if an area or region didn’t have anything specific they used the regional sub the Chicken Peppino. You can ask for it at any subway in the US because the ingredients are things that all subways have.

Chicken Peppino is Cheese, Chicken Breast, pepperoni, Marinara sauce, oregano, peppers and onions.

Also subway uses the cheapest cheese, American, as the default cheese, if you want a different cheese ask.

  320. I wish more places had vegetarian secret menu items, or just vegetarian options in general =’( And why in the world would anyone want bacon on their veggie burger!?!? Grosssss!!! The whole point is no meat.
    -Meat is yucky-

  321. what ever happened to the bell beefer from taco bell? my aunt used to order it every time we went there and i would get the enchirito. they wereboth dropped from the menu and a few years ago the enchirito came back. not the bell beefer

  322. I have worked at a Houston area Chick-fil-a WAY too long. These are the things you need to know:

    1. You ask for it, we’ll make it. If you see the ingredients on the menu, it can be done. Grilled cheese? Check. Custom milkshakes? Check. Nuggets on the salads? Done.

    2. If you want grilled nuggets or strips instead of fried? No problem.

    3. Drink combos are welcome. We’ll mix any drinks -even add cherries or lemons if you ask for it.

    4. Our coupons don’t expire and if you want to get something else besides whats on the coupon? Totally ok.

    5. Unlimited refills with a Chick-fil-a cup.

    6. Basically, ask for anything and you will receive.

Of course there are differences from Operator to Operator, but everywhere it is our pleasure to serve you- no matter what crazy combos you order.

  323. Chick-fil-a will do a blueberry milkshake if you smile and bat your eyelashes.

  324. the pizza sub is in fact offered in the mexican subways, it’s part of the menu and at some point a few years ago it was publicized like a new product

  325. In-N-Out will make their fries crispier, like a true pomme frite, just ask for them extra crispy.

Jamba Juice no longer lists the Berry Lime Sublime: Lime sherbet and raspberries, but nearly every location I’ve been to still know it.

  326. I work at a Dairy Queen, and pretty much if you ask for anything that we carry, we can put it in a blizzard for you. One guy even asked for a strawberry cheesequake with pickle. We also sell litres of icecream, and you have the option to get them layered with a candy, topping, or fruit. Also, we have a few things not listed on the menu. Jack and Jill sundaes (hot fudge and marshmellow), chocolate rocks (hot fudge, peanuts or peacans, and a cone dip topping), fiesta sundaes, and mr. freezes (artic rushes mixed with icecream), or pop milkshakes. We also do make frozen ”hot” chocolates, which is the misty freeze, cocoa fudge, and icecream blended together , but I hate making these.

  327. A few McDonalds will make the McGangbang if you ask them – you can also order a McGeeBee if you want to be polite. That’s a double cheeseburger with a chicken sandwich (buns and all) stuck between the beef patties… Most fast food places have the ingredients for that on their dollar menu.

I’ve also heard of them making the “Noah’s Ark” if you ask them – that’s 2 of each animal on the menu put in the same sandwich.

  328. My daughter used to work at Jamba, that’s the only reason I know of the secret combos; however, good luck getting any two stores, or any two people to make them the same way! I was even at one JJ that swore we were mistaken and refused to make them. Oh well.

  329. What about pricing? How do they decide how much to charge you?

Also, what is the good of secret menu items? Why would they hide them?

  330. The Pizza Sub never left Canada. They even have a version of the sub with chicken up here.

  331. Sonic Route 44 strawberry slushie with bananas and orange juice. At happy hour it’s half price, which basically gets you a ginormous sunrise smoothie minus the ice cream, for a buck.

  332. As a former barista at caribou and friend of many sbux baristas I can say that they will make pretty much anything that there are ingredients for.
“haha, too bad I cant just get a cup of the whipped cream”
No, you can. I’m going to charge you for a cup of whipping cream. There are buttons on the touch screen for almost any combination you can think of.
    Seriously.

  333. Great article, and even better comments!! Thanks everyone! Someone mentioned something at Starbucks called a London Fog (earl gray tea, milk, vanilla shot)? I’d love to try this, can anyone expand on it?

  334. At HuHot, you can get anything on their stirfry buffet mixed together. (Big surprise.) Only catch: You need some sauces in there, or your food will burn or something like that

  335. Kind of surprises me that the pizza sub at Subway is not on the menu all the time. That is a standard at Subway in Canada. It’s never not on the menu. They even have a Chicken Pizziola sub at some Subways with is a chicken sub with pepperoni and pizza sauce on it.

Surprised in the states where they have much more unique fast food items that they wouldn’t have such a plain one.

  336. I wouldn;t call this a secret menu item persay, but a few years back me and my friends found it amusing to order a “tacomole” at taco bell. It was a prank, and we hoped they would just make whatever they thought it was but if they asked what it it was we’d say “a hard taco shell filled with guacamole”.

and I have had that made for me numerous times, usually ranging from 2cents to 50 cents. usually i get charged for the guac and not the shell, but sometimes both. on one occasion the employee took it as a taco with guac so that ended up just being a taco supreme.

p.s. it may sound gross but its actually decent

  337. Not a secret, but overseas chains like McD’s and Pizza Hut had some great “local” specialties — especially Asia. McD’s offered a Samurai burger, passion-fruit sundae, and pineapple pies. Don’t remember the PH pizzas, but they were good too.

  338. At dairy queen they will make old fashioned sodas and pretty much any of the menu items they have had In the past.

  339. Not really a secret menu item, since we’re all waxing poetic about fast food…does anyone remember a chicken wrap made on flatbread at Wendy’s about 15 years ago? It had a fresh “slaw” and a ranch dressing style “sauce”…it was really good!

My mom still wishes they had the old “Big and Tasty” for $1.

Wendy’s also had a healthy-style burger…it had a boatload of veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, carrot, peppers…probably more!) at Wendy’s in the late eighties…my mom loved that sammich!

  340. I work at a Subway in the Carolinas, and we have the Pizza sub on the menu. :) And it has 12 slices of pepperoni, not nine :)

  341. Patronize non-chain mom-n-pop local restaurants. Stop empowering the megacorps and their horrifying faux food. You’ll eat better, spend less, and maybe even save our country from the necktie nazis.

  342. Most PF Changs restaurants will still make anything from older versions of their menu, as long as they have all the ingredients…love the BBQ chicken salad!

  343. 9 of the 13 Jamba Juice smoothies mentioned can no longer be made. Sorry. :(

  344. i live in backwoods missouri, my closest subway has the pizza sub on the menu, under the 5 dollar foot long section, it surprised me to see that on here, i order it all the time, its really good.

  345. OMG the MCGangBang is a must try! its a McChicken within a double cheeseburger… yummy!

  346. I worked at a Wendy’s in Utah…we called the 1 pound burger a “Home Run.” They still make it here.

  347. Green sauce at Taco Bell is not a myth; I have seent it! Well, I’ve always been able to get it in Washington State. A friend of mine turned me onto it some 30 years ago, when I was in high school. However, I’ve tried to order it in Homestead, FL, and no dice about 4-5 years ago. Just tried to order it near Bethlehem, PA three weeks ago, and no dice there. It’s best on the regular bean burrito, IMHO. Just be sure they delete the red sauce, too. Combo of sauces is bad.

  348. BTW…at Cold Stone Creamery, I order a large banana shake. Ask to have it made with banana ice cream and a fresh banana. OMFG, is that ever great. I personally call it the “Banana Coma”.

  349. I’ve been ordering the pizza sub for as long as I can remember, because that’s what my sister always got. I didn’t know it was some kind of “secret!” No wonder I can never find it on the menu!

  350. Apparently, my DAD knew about the Subway Pizza Sub a long time before I did. I started ordering them after I split one with him, and now they have them on the menu at our local Subway.

  351. I actually just read about the Neapolitan Shake in a book this morning, and ended up ordering it for lunch. The Manager said, “We probably ahouldn’t make it, but I’ve had a crappy day here, so why not.” It made my day, and the shake was delicious. When I got home, I came on mentalfloss and started looking around, and stumbled on this article. I read through the comments, and decided taht a McGangBang sounded really good. So, I went to McDonald’s, walked up to the counter and asked for one. The kid behind the counter said, “You want a what?” I repeated it, and when he still looked confused, explained what it was. He started laughing, his manager walked over, asked what was going on. The kid expalined, and went off to make the sandwich. The manager told me that I shouldn’t order that during the day, and told the kid to just make the two sandwhiches seperately. So, I put them together on my own, and I have to say, it was delicious! I have a new regular order at McD’s.

  352. I’m not sure if this qualifies as secret or not, but at 5&50 in Tipton, MO they will make a ‘Suicide’ which is basically a little bit of every soda they have in their machine. Just don’t ask for a small or they will laugh at you.

  353. Someone above posted a tip about getting a triple shot of espresso in a large cup and filling it yourself at the milk-creamer area. That’s called stealing. Just pay the dollar extra, don’t be rude.

  354. Here in the uk it is normal, and actively encouraged by their advertising to order whatever you want on a sub at subway, as long as they have it

  355. Micky D’s here (australia) will sell you any component from their menu, and its pretty cheap that way. I have 3 rashes of bacon and 2 eggs for breakfast for $6 thats a pretty good deal and pretty healthy by comparison to eating their shitty bread.

  356. I worked at McDonalds in my teens & I can assure you, they would NOT mix shake flavors together. People used to ask us to mix soda flavors and shake flavors, but the shakes have a flavor choice & size setting: you pick the flavor (ie chocolate, vanilla, etc) and the size and it fills up the cup accordingly. Most places will refuse to mix anything else into it.

  357. For all the dopes talking about the Mc Gang Bang, it’s ONLY known in/around the Texas A&M area. Most places warn NOT to order it as a “Mc Gang Bang” because you’ll be kicked out of the restaurant… just order the double cheeseburger and a mcchicken separately and make it yourself… tho it sounds gross.

  358. At McDonald’s you can get a “mocha shake” – ask them for a chocolate shake with a splash of coffee on the top. Mix it up and enjoy.

  359. At In N Out you can order chili peppers on your burger which are sooo good if you like a little heat

  360. In the UK
Re no 9 Pizza Subs are a standard menu item across a lot of Subway franchises

and as a former Mcdonalds (not franchise but main chain) employee I can tell you our store allowed:

Rainbow shakes, which were, Vanilla, banana, chocolate and strawberry in one cup.

Cheese burgers with no meat and veggie burgers with bacon.

We would also make a coffee milkshake by adding a double espresso to a half McFlurry half plain shake mix.

From moving around stores its my understanding the offering of mixed shakes has a lot to do with the age of the store as new stores tended to have one touch machines that auto filed the cup and couldn’t be manually operated.

  361. Lee Ann Chin offers a kid’s meal for under $5, and it includes a small entree, a side of rice, a dessert (Wonton, fortune cookie), and a small refillable drink.

  362. At Dairy Queen, you can order a lot of stuff too that is not on the menu. You can order a Misty Freeze, which is ice cream and the Mr. Misty blended together. It is fantastic. Also, you can order frings too on it (onion rings and fries together!)

  363. Here in Scotland, We have them Twisters at KFC, which aren’t too bad. Included inside them is peppered Mayo, once I asked if I could have a tub of this stuff. Now I always ask for it (30p) and its AMAZING to dip the chips into and of course for the chicken also. mmmm! Also, try a normal breast of chicken burger, and add zinger salsa. Its very unique.

    McDonalds is disgusting a vile!

Subway do Pizza subs here, right in the center menu, there it is. And my lord, do they taste goooood!

And a special one just in Scotland – ask for a deep friend marsbar, its like an orgasm!

  364. McDonald’s has the “All American Meal” which is a medium hamburger, fries & drink for 3 dollars

  365. There’s an unpublished size for fries at McDonald’s called “Humongousize.” The basically take one of their large drink cups and fill it with fires.

  366. Gorditas have always been my favorite at Taco Bell, but several years ago they took them off of the menu. I’ve never had trouble ordering them at the Taco Bells I’ve visited. After all, Chalupas are still on the menu, and gorditas are merely the unfried equivalent.

  367. In my home town you can order a McGangBang at McDonald’s, but only on night shift. It is a McDouble with a Hot N Spicy patty inbetween.

  368. Sonic – “EXTREME TOTS”
it’s an old menu item that consisted of chili cheese tots with added onions, jalapenos, & ranch dressing.

  369. About 30 miles south of here in NE Ohio, my stepdad ordered Biscuits and Gravy at a McDonald’s. And it came on a PLATE. A real black ceramic plate.

I tried the 4X2 (Double Double with two times the cheese, basically) and a Neopolitan shake at an In And Out in Fullerton, CA. It was pretty good. But when I ordered my dad and brother were all “whut?”.

  370. Starbucks – Expresso con Panna. Two raw sugars. Two shots of expresso, whip cream, and stir. A mousse like equivalent of Popeye’s spinach. I could feel the caffeine going through my veins. It is the ONLY thing that got me through 4am Starbucks barista shifts.

  371. I went to In n Out a while ago, and tried a chocolate and vanilla shake, rather than a Neapolitan. It was great!

  372. In the province of Quebec in Canada, you can get poutine fries at McDonalds and most other fast food places. It’s fries with gravy and cheese curds.
And when I lived in Northern Ontario I worked with a rather large woman who would order a “cheese on cheese” baked potato at Wendy’s… I’m sure this was her invention.

  373. THEY SERVE IN AND OUT SPREAD AT MCDONALDS

  374. The best drink ever at Caribou Coffee (affectionately known at only one location as the “Jamison special” because Jamison made it up) is a medium Zebra Mocha, white and milk chocolate (you have to specify because they also have dark chocolate at Caribou, skim milk, a 1/2 shot of chai (yes, chai tea), whipped cream, and nutmeg sprinkled on top. You have to order a medium, otherwise the proportion of chai is messed up. I haven’t tried ordering it at Starbucks yet, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t make it for me. Next time I’m at Starbucks I’ll test them and see. :)

  375. They make a bomb Crunchberry Frappuccino at Starbucks that isn’t listed on the menu. (If the barista doesn’t know what you’re talking about, tell him/her that you want a Stawberries and Cream Frappuccino with Hazelnut flavoring.)

  376. When ordering from Chili’s restaurant,if you are familiar with any of their past menu items you can order anything they have served past and present. Such as chicken fried chicken. Yummy!!

  377. In-N-Out: You can get your fries “well done” which means fried twice for extra crispy or “raw” which means fried less time for softer

Starbucks: Getting a chai with an extra shot of espresso is a “dirty chai” – 2 extra shots of espresso and it’s a “filthy chai”

Mister Softee (only in NYC midtown): They have special toppings for the chocolate dip cones like potato chips or peanut butter filled pretzels – my personal favorite, half and half!

  378. A standard McDonald’s big breakfast comes with scrambled eggs, sausage, a biscuit and hash browns. If you order a big breakfast with Canadian bacon they will give you a big breakfast with a piece of Canadian bacon (round) instead of the sausage.

  379. at the good old mc d’s you can order a mcgangbang its a sandwhich in this order… bun…burger(black guy) fish pattie (white guy)…burger(black guy)…bun… yes that good…$3

  380. Go to dairy queen and ask for a “chocolate Utopia”. It’s my favorite thing to get there, and they took it off the menu years ago, but they can still make it if you ask, they just use mudslide ingredients. But really, they’re the best!

  381. Anyone ever have the Carolina burger at wendy’s. They use to have this in SC when i was in college, it was a cheese burger with onion chili and slaw and was delicious.

  382. Boyfriend orders the pizza sub at Subway every time we go. I don’t eat meat but it does look amazing and he assures me it is. We’ve been to several locations and he’s never had an issue with them making it for him :)

  383. In western Iowa at only a select few Pizza Huts, you can get “white sauce” to dip breadsticks in. No, it’s not the same as garlic sauce. I actually have no idea what’s in it (other than probably a thousand grams of fat), but it’s delish. I’ve always wondered where else this is offered (haven’t found it on this side of the state). Anyone else have this?

  384. I worked at a Subway in high school (in America) and we had the pizza sub on our menu. 10 slices of pepperoni, not nine. And Subway people will make pretty much anything you ask for, as long as it isn’t busy. Once a girl came in asking for a grilled chicken with bacon and tuna..

  385. I know all about custom items at Taco Bell! (It’s practically my second home! J/k, I love it, but I make it there once a week or less.) One time I almost had the poor girl cashier giggling when I ordered an XXL chalupa, no meat sub beans, no red strips, and no sour cream. (Sounds weird, but it was good!) I probably should have explained to her that I was a vegetarian, but I didn’t think to do that. If I ever order that inside again, I will so that no one has a giggle fit. (I don’t think she was laughing at me, she probably just thought it was surprising and odd
since she had to repeat it back to me.)

I would love to go to In-N-Out Burger to try their fries animal style (I think that’s just with sauce), but I don’t know if there’s one where I live.
Also a grilled cheese sounds good.

I have been known to order a lot of things without the meat. I love the chicken-less wrap at Applebees because of the sauce that comes with it, and the chicken-less wrap at Sonic is really good too!

  386. My favorite menu item at Applebee’s was always the Oriental Chicken Wrap, but it’s no longer on the menu (at least not since I went about a month ago). However, the Oriental Chicken Salad is on the menu and you can order it as a wrap, and if you’re lucky, the manager will be kind enough to give it to you as part of the 2 for $20 meal deal.
