You know, “A Christmas Carol” illustrates lessons about the value of treating others well, without the rigid structure of organized religion.

I have no love for organized religion whatsoever, and regard zealotry and fanaticism as the surest indication of evil.

However, most religions of any real merit do emphasize the basic tenets put forth by Dickens and Dickens does a spectacular job communicating that.

Even when I was a pagan, and later when I became an atheist, I always saw Christmas as a good excuse to spoil the people I love. Now, as a Christian, the way I celebrate the holiday hasn’t changed much. Let’s hear it for brotherly (and sisterly) love and family togetherness!

True. I’d prefer to get fricky-dicky on Christmas, with a Colt 45 tallboy in one hand and a Swisher Sweet in the other. Making out with my hot boyfriend and starting fights in the shake-junt. Throwing chairs, breaking jaws.

However, then Christmas would be like every other day of the year for me.
