The trailer for 2012, a film about the predicted end of the world, promises destruction galore and cements Roland Emmerich as the undisputed king of toppling world monuments. In Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and now 2012, Emmerich has taken down the White House, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and countless other monuments, buildings and even entire cities. In this quiz, we’ve identified ten of Emmerich’s most spectacular demolitions (using the 2012 trailer for those examples). Can you identify how and in what movie each monument was destroyed?
Take the Quiz: The Roland Emmerich Reign of Destruction
Man, I hope Mr. Emmerich has a really good therapist. We know he already has a killer special effects team…

I like how these earth shattering events always hit an arbitrary location. How about a hailstorm in the Montana farmfields, destroying crops? How about a Tidal wave smashing into Jonesport Maine and the southern tip of Nova Scotia? Why can’t we have tornadoes ravage an already destroyed Chernobyl? How about a drought in the southwest tip of Australia? How many times can you show the destruction of New York, Paris, L. A. and Tokyo? I’m surprised however, that the Pyramids of Giza stay relatively unscathed in most of these movies.

I got 9/10. I’m not sure if I should be proud or utterly disappointed in myself as a human being.

Let’s not forget Godzilla tearing through NYC and laying his (her?) eggs in Madison Square Garden!

100% – I’m slightly ashamed of myself for liking Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. (And thanks for the reminder of what Godzilla did to Madison Square Garden, Austin! At least you didn’t mention the Brooklyn Bridge scene!)

Aww. I got 9/10. I’m ashamed. Time to watch “Independence Day” again. I wonder how much money would Roland Emmerich pay for the “damage” of countless monuments?
